Ross Barkley

He's always been in it for himself
I mean most footballers are but with lukaku you always felt he wasn't a team player as such I mean spirit etc he was just assed if he would score or not lol

always took a fraction of a second longer than everyone else to celebrate someone else scoring for us, annoyed the hell out of me! As for Ross he definitely cares about the team, maybe too much, tries too hard and overplays... I reckon he'd be a great part of the squad but definitely not the number 10 we've tried to make him...potential/young is no longer an excuse...unfortunately another team will benefit now and he will be a very good squad player over the season...but to stay here it would feel like a demotion to him probably

Yeah, he's linked to the below clubs because he's utterly gash mate.

Tottenham – 4/6
Man United – 6/1 (from 12/1 yesterday)
Chelsea – 7/1
Arsenal – 10/1
Man City – 16/1

Our fans are ridiculous...
Show me a player who has just one team in the betting odds. Bookies do it for a reason, so fans bet. United fans have heard rumours and will think "6/1 is a steal! My mate said we're getting him"

The fact that the odds for the other teams are so high. Shows it's clearly not a tug of war for Ross. He's linked to them with the bookies because noone would bet on Newcastle or Stoke. But fans from the top 6 would of course bet on the constant rumours that fly around in the silly season.

Agreed. Thing is, with or without him, we have moved on. He is no longer the indispensable golden boy that we have pinned all our hopes on, he just another useful squad player. Part of the reason he probably wants out is that his ego can no longer take that.

Lee Trundle wasn't ever 8/11 to join Barcelona mate, and Messi isn't evens to join Port Vale. Player quality has an impact on the betting market, whether people unfathomably don't want to recognise that quality or not.

Which is unsurprising.

I find this whole thing odd - not in terms of what Barkley is doing, but the fans.

Emre Can at Liverpool is also a 23 year old player entering the last year of his contract, where little news about contract discussions has been leaked to the press. Has there been an uproar about him, shouts of traitor/snake etc.? If he signs a new contract, would he face accusations of "oh, nobody else wanted him" or "nobody would pay him more than us"?

No, obviously not, because Barkley is bizarrely subject to completely different rules.

It would be different if Can was a local lad.

If what the press are saying is true that arsenal think they can get him for 25m would that mean they will throw giroud in on the deal?

In the unlikely event no one buys him but he doesn't sign a new contract; would Koeman just completely banish him from the squad do we think?
I should hope so at that stage. If nobody wants him enough to pay for him and he won't sign a new deal then he shouldn't even get a game with the kids. If he leaves us in that position then he should never play for the club again. Let him run down his contract and lose a whole year of playing no games in any level.

This injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Ross or Everton. I doubt he'd be able to pass a medical at present, so that makes it likely the longer he stays at Everton during the window, it will drive down the price we're able to obtain.

It probably also strengthens Swansea's hand in the Gylfi saga.

Jim a white was at it again this morning.

I was out in the car and he said he had "big news" about Ross Barkley coming up after this, that and t'other.

Did anyone hear owt of interest about Ross?

Which is the honest answer, meaning just because of where the lad is from, he should drop professional common sense from his career whilst other players are free to negotiate better terms.

It's ridiculous.

If you think this is all about him 'negotiating better terms', you are very naive.
