Ross Barkley

I'd like to sign someone like Walters to be an improvement on Kone yes. That's nothing to do with Barkley.

Barkley has had 100 games plus what is it maybe a dozen for his country. His end product is poor in my opinion and going by the groans in the crowd around me I'm not alone in thinking that.

Sterling's stats from the previous season would be useful before comparing. That season he went beyond average Premier League class in my book. I think he's better than Barkley.

I know swaps don't really happen it was just a means for debate. I'd just prefer to have Oscar in the team ahead of Ross.

Walters really would be no improvement on Kone...

Barkley is a class act. Every ex-pro who sees him believes it, every manager who sees him and every player that plays against him.

Oscar is a class player, but be realstic, it would never happen. Oscar is also very one-dimensional in certain aspects.

Watch any other premier league game between two other teams mate. You don't see many (if any) players who have the skill, power and pace to literally glide past people like Barkley does so regularly. We're used to it now, and it means he doesn't get credit for the little things he does.

But how can you compare Sterling and Barkley when really they are two totally different types of midfielder? Sterling to me is more of an advanced attacking midfielder especially when he was at Liverpool, whereas Barkley is surely supposed to be more of a 'box-to-box' player. I'm not sure he has necessarily been allowed to settle into one particular position by Martinez either whereas Sterling has.

Agree to disagree on Kone/Walters.

I stand by my opinion that Barkley won't kick on past the "lad's got great potential".

Yes he can glide past the opposition but too often nothing comes of it. That's my issue.

Why are you comparing wingers and forwards with central midfielders???

But, Ross has better attacking outputs than the pair of them, while your at it.

I didn't make the comparison at first. Someone else did. I just think Sterling is the better/more valuable player.

Sterlings a myth imo, nowhere near 50 mils worth. Ross is a far superior player

On a sentimental note, I don't understand people that want to sell a great young player who's from Liverpool and who's grown up with the club. It saddens me when we don't field any proper local players.

We need to hold on players who know what this club means to its fans, rather than replacing them .

Plenty of true Everton legends (no not Tim Cahill) have come from far and wide. Being a local is a bonus yes but I'd swap it in an instant for a bit more intelligence.

Thats because you only watch all of our games, if you watched all of coutinho, oscar, hazard, mata, martial, yaya, silva, de bruyne and any player like that, you will see that they also do not creat every time they get the ball.

You are asking too much of any player, never mind a young lad.

Maybe you've got something there but surely even his most ardent fan on here would admit he frustrates more often than be excels?

If Barkley didn't improve at all he'd still be one of the best players on the league.

He has 11 goals and 8 assists (including internationals) this year.

It is only February 1st.

So do we simply judge a player based on stats? Including testimonials?

He's nowhere near the "best players in the league" class

Well no, he excites more the frustrates, now. In all competition he has over 10 assist and 10 goals.

That is very very good, and thats just the stats you can easily pick up on.

He completely controls the pace of our games....and while you may say its too slow at times, which may be the case, but to actually have the ability to do that in the first place, shows his class. THAT is what many of us see, mate.

While i love watching him, course he could improve and thats probably his off the ball movemnt and work rate, but you could say that same thing about yaya and david silva, coutinho, de bruyne and every other player like that....but nobody picks them up on it.

I beleive that is because of 2 reasons, they are not English and those teams have better support for those lads.

He'd be better than Kone. Plus since when did we have a squad with just two strikers anyway?

I like Walters. He's Irish, he's a Blue, he scores goals and gives everything.

He's 34 and can't run. He's a blue, he's from Birkenhead.

And Osman gets slated on here...

We like Barkley because:

He's a blue. He's actually very good at football. At the age of 22 he's completely running our midfield and consistently teams have to put 3 men on him to negate his threat - and even then he gets chances. He could be world class, and even if he doesn't live up to that, he will be a fantastic player.
