Ross Barkley

If Barkley didn't improve at all he'd still be one of the best players on the league.

He has 11 goals and 8 assists (including internationals) this year.

It is only February 1st.

*season

Otherwise he'd be on Messi's level

I should have gone to specsavers, I thought I just read get read someone thinks Barkley isn't much but would sign Walters. I'll book an appointment now.

No lad. I said Barkley wasn't as good as many on here are making out. He's decent / very good. But I'm tired of saying he's all about potential. At no point have I said he "isn't much".

For Walters it's completely another matter. He'd be better than Kone but I'd want him anyway. We need at least three strikers in the squad!!

haha some mad comments here ... barkley at the moment is sparkling , him and dele ali are outstanding footballers ... the only thing i hope doesn't happen to barkley is getting his attacking threat coached out of him to get him to dictate the midfield ( e.g. scholes ) because we all love him driving forward with the ball with his immense skill set

I think he has 2-3 levels to go before the finished article

Agree to disagree on Kone/Walters.

I stand by my opinion that Barkley won't kick on past the "lad's got great potential".

Yes he can glide past the opposition but too often nothing comes of it. That's my issue.

He is in the process of kicking on beyond just potential. It's not a switch that flips overnight. As a 22 year old he'll just about physically matured by now and his game is only going to improve from here.

Too often nothing comes of it? That's massively unfair, when in possession he very rarely loses it from being tackled. Making dangerous passes forward are the most risky and unlikely to come off, of course some of them won't work. If you can't see how important he is to our midfield and how he's starting to dictate our play then I don't really know what else to say

He needs to improve his intelligence though - not his physical side.

Also saying that Barkley has really stepped up and ran games over the last 18 months (which is pretty much what most of his supporters here are saying) doesn't then sit well with the cold hard facts that we've been pretty rubbish over that period.

I'd like to sign someone like Walters to be an improvement on Kone yes. That's nothing to do with Barkley.

Barkley has had 100 games plus what is it maybe a dozen for his country. His end product is poor in my opinion and going by the groans in the crowd around me I'm not alone in thinking that.

Sterling's stats from the previous season would be useful before comparing. That season he went beyond average Premier League class in my book. I think he's better than Barkley.

I know swaps don't really happen it was just a means for debate. I'd just prefer to have Oscar in the team ahead of Ross.

Its the groans that cause this. Barkley wouldn't have scored either of the goals at City or Carlisle at Goodison. The lads a bag of nerves. That's why half the time he doesn't know what to do with it.
