Ross Barkley

Can we stop comparing him to Zidane, Gazza and all the other ex superstars? It massively smells of kopite

Nobodys comparing him to Zidane, they are saying he has the qualitys that Zidane and Gazza had, nobodies saying hes playing like peak Zidane.

And lets not forget, the following was said about Zidane when he was almost the same age as Ross :

In 1995, Blackburn Rovers manager Kenny Dalglish had expressed interest in signing both Zidane and Dugarry, to which team owner and chairman Jack Walker reportedly replied, "Why do you want to sign Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?

Also towards the beginning of the 1996 season, according to football agent Barry Silkman, Zidane was offered to Newcastle United for £1.2 million, but the club turned down the offer after watching him, claiming that he was not good enough for the English First Division.

Just saying.

His awareness to just gently flick and almost just let it run onto Kone was great.

Shame Kone is crap. Hit his one on one straight at goalie!

.....Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail on this morning's Sunday Supplement saying he was misinterpreted on Twitter for saying Everton fans were giving Barkley abuse during the midweek game against Newcastle. apparently he tweeted to say what a great game Barkley was having then soon after he gave the ball away and tweeted again about the fans reaction to his mistakes.

yeh I remember the tweets. He worded it badly really - but his basic point was that the fans reacted harshly to a few mistakes from Ross.

Which we all know happens a lot at Goodison.

Barkley is superb. He's 22 and we're seeing him really become an all-round midfielder at the moment. Some of the runs he made yesterday were immense, and he's fantastic on the counter, but is also able to drop back and dictate our play.

Utter bellend, he knew exactly what he was tweeting

He is beginning to remind me more and more of a young Zidane. He has a really strong physical presence when in possession (although not interested in tackling) but has a really delicate touch and graceful movements, feints, dummies etc.
Not saying he will become that good but he is blossoming into something special in front of our very eyes. And in the same way that I used to disagree with those who called Sheedy a shithouse because he was not much of a tackler I prefer to focus on what he can do rather than what he can't....yet.

Hit the nail on the head. Well done that person.

3.42am - lad?

What game was he watching

Have said it before. 99.9% in the crowd are on the edges of their feet willing Barkley on. When he makes a silly mistake and misplaces a seemingly obvious pass or dithers too long and the opportunity disintegrates then the crowd will be frustrated. Just in the same way as his own family probably are when they are watching him too.

To think thousands of fans will just smile and clap politely when he balls something up and nod to the person next to them and say "ah shucks that didn't turn out right for the the boy Ross but let's appreciate his quality all the same" just isn't going to happen.

If he tries something that doesn't come off, my first instinct isn't to boo/hiss/moan/slag off, it's more to shout an encouragement.. "Well done Ross, keep going". Not everything every player tries works every time, even for Messi and Ronaldo. Better to encourage than to get on his back
