Ross Barkley

Well its not as simple as that really is it?

But for any of that to happen Barkley needs to be firing and believing in himself which is the whole crux of the argument isnt it?
Given that the crux of your argument is that Ross Barkley isn't all that after a crap half a season in which the rest of the team was downright awful, it isn't unrealistic to expect that another manager will be able to do this, particularly given the standard of managerial candidates we are supposedly looking at.

How is Alli not a gamble?

He's had one good season?

He's a good player, very good, but fgs, it's so hyped-up. He was man-marked out of the game by Claudio Yacob against West Brom with ease. Claudio Yacob...

Looking mate I'm not anti Barkley. Far from it. I don't even care too much for England these days. Alli had a good season stepping up from a mediocre L1 team (I know they got promoted that season but still mediocre).I feel Ross is lazy and a luxurious risk and as such doesnt fit into the current England set up as well as Alli. As a game changer off the bench he's probably a good alternative. As for Yacob, that's his game. He certainly didn't out "football" the kid.

Sums it up perfectl.

If I was the England manager I would be thinking I have the most productive midfielder in the country in my squad yet he is still not performing anywhere near his max. What could a top coach manage out of him.

yeh he's been turd like

oh, and also.

This season, in all comps (including Europa for Spurs)

Alli - 46 games - 10 goals - 11 assists

Barkley - 48 games - 12 goals - 11 assists

Yeh, Alli is miles better though...

99% of all statistics are meaningless.

What's with the unnecessary points scoring here?
He started it, sir.

Apparently, you're not allowed to believe Barkley might not be the greatest player ever and above criticism. My point that we don't have to stick with him forever still stands as far as I'm concerned.

We are all 'outsiders' looking in. We can all read stats etc but the bottom line is, Ross has been out of form. We all know he is an exceptional talent and would walk into any side. We are all, to a man, saying that he is - or looks - overweight. I would love him to go to the Euros -as I would Jags and Baines- this would say that the players are at the top of their game and Everton were challenging at the top of the league. He's been very laboured this last few months and cant afford to be carried in a major tournament. If he doesnt go lets get him back to Everton and hopefully they give him the correct support, get fit for next season and show us what he can really do.

Think Dortmund fans are crying about Reus being left out Germany Squad? Nah.

As I have said loads he has lots of talent. Hes potentially a fantastic player however I have never been convinced about him mentally. I think stuff like that is really hard to change in a player. Even at his worst he will still be a useful player. I just think he could offer so much more but he needs to want it more.

I just don't think it's a point that needs to be made at the moment. He's had a poor half season sure, but a pretty darn good half a season before that. Why are we talking about binning a good player as not good enough when the weighting of the evidence suggests otherwise?

At the end of the day we're supporters, not bloody food critics.
It's more than ok to allow some leniency and space for mistakes.

I think his mental strength is his weakness.
I reckon we've seen some of the physical weaknesses in his overall game improve.
That mental side will make him or break him in regards to getting to the very top of the game.
I don't think it's right to just hop on the hate brigade after a poor half a season though, hence why I've been quite positive and defensive of the boy.

I dont hate him at all by the way.

To be honest I dont think there is anything wrong with questioning players on sites like this. Doing it in the ground is another thing entirely.
