Ross Barkley

radio commentator was saying yesterday ohh for an in form Ross Barkley to put in this side , we so lack creativity. Bang on.

I wonder what happened to him in the second half of last season, a lot of our better players suffered with their form but surely it can't all be put down to poor management and 'losing the dressing room' can it?

Ross unfortunately looks like the ultimate confidence player. Which is odd given he has fantastic technical ability.

Looks like he lacks a bit of bottle - may come with experience or he might just be a flat track bully. Reminds me a bit of Ian Bell when he broke into the England Cricket team.

just getting fit will make a massive difference to Barkley. He was certainly looking top heavy towards the end of the season. A more leaner, meaner Barkley should be a different proposition for other teams at the start of the season.

Still love him like, as others have said before, very much a player with a confidence problem (that Jagielka vid in the tunnel seems to scream that out for those that doubted as well), so not shocked really that when the team started tanking it he was effected maybe more than anyone - how can you expect a confidence player to play well in a team that has no confidence in the manager anymore...

the new fitness bloke if he's as good as he is supposed to be should do wonders for him as well, shed a bit of the bulk he's put on in the gym (by the looks anyway) and get him being able to play a full 90 at full pelt, that in itself will give him so much more confidence in himself and he will kick on from their, could be a very very good season for him i hope

Would love him to see some action against Slovakia. Alli has shown nothing special in these 2 games and it'll do him good to play some part in a full international tournament. With us almost certainly qualified as a best 3rd place team already, I wonder if Roy is going to give a rest to anyone that has already played 2 games? Obviously it pays to finish as high as possible but it will be the only chance to rest people who look a bit jaded. Will be interesting to see which way RH goes with his selection.

Where's that vid lad?

Nice one. He's certainly a confidence player but he isn't a kid anymore, he needs to understand that if you take the praise they throw at you seriously, then you have to take the bricks that come with it too. He needs an arm around the shoulder but also some strong coaching, Martinez didn't help Ross' cause with his 'blue skies' philosophy. Hopefully Koeman can be a better mentor to him but he needs to want it for himself and work on his mentality. When he learns to be more aware and take responsibility in games, he's going to an awesome player.

Playing in a team suffering defeat after defeat can't be good for confidence. He is class, and that will always rise to the top.

In a way I'm glad he is not playing, he is probably still struggling for form and maybe being on the sidelines will reignite something inside to prove everyone wrong next season.

I see people in the past few months have talked about him being fat, I think that's far from the case. He looks to be going overboard on the weights and bulking up too much for a footballer in my view.

Hopefully Ron and the new fitness coach will sort this out for him.

Anyone thinking he's fat is blind, he's built like a boxer who overdoes it when moving up a division and put on way way too much muscle, may look good on the beach but isn't gonna help his agility, mobility and stamina on the pitch, hopefully Koemans fitness coach the first thing he does is sort a fitness plan with him and get him streamlined down
