2017/18 Ross Barkley

Never said he did. Said he's just wrote off 15-20 million off of his value as an asset to this club by reneging on agreed-upon deal at the last minute for reasons that will not be for this club's benefit.
After the Sissoko farce of last year - I don't trust the clubs version of what happened here with the Barkley/Chelsea deal.

I am one of life's hard nosed dispassionate people

this is likely the least accurate statement ever seen on the forum

who would think nothing of making thousands redundant, or sending troops into battle

although this bit is all too plausible

* * *

anyhow, there is definitely something odd going on behind the scenes - we might never know what

what an infuriating player. so much raw talent, and such awful decision-making. he never did learn.

the real lost opportunity over the past few years was never having someone behind Lukaku who thought to pass it to him

when i retire I'll make a youtube video of every instance where Lukaku is in space beckoning and begging for Ross to just look up, led alone make the pass - and then he dallies, or smashes into row Z/the first defender. it will be a long, long video

Lukaku could have scored 40, had it ever occurred to Ross look up, and stop devoting his whole career to re-enacting the Newcastle goal

We are not neutrals though.......

I know, neutrals are more likely to be objective though... that's my point.

No sorry, I was fully supporting Ross in his stance right up until last night.

The problem isn't him wanting to move on, it's how he's gone about it. It's about respect for an institution that made you. If the club didn't want to negotiate with Spurs due to an illegal approach, then he should have either respected it and moved elsewhere, or he should have put his cards on the table and told the club he wasn't going anywhere else.

We don't know if it had anything to do with an illegal approach though. They may have just not wanted to spend £35 million on him and thus didn't bid.

I don't deny it was amateurish for him to back out of Chelsea at the last moment but we don't know the details of what triggered that, it's all assumptions. If it was simply a case of cold feet at the last moment then I can't really hate on him for it... it's a big decision which will define the rest of his career.

It should also be mentioned that it has not been confirmed by Chelsea or Barkley that he did actually quit in the middle of the medical, in-fact there is an article on the BBC right now with quotes from Barkleys team that he didn't even have a medical. People seem to be ignoring this... I could be wrong but the only person who said he left mid medical was Moshiri ?

Im not sure this is as clear cut as people think...

I'm not so much defending him as trying to tell you he has the right to look after himself - make his own choices - irrespective of the feelings of super fans like yourself.

Yea right, right to screwed us over from getting £35m to reinvest. This is going as planned now and super fans like you are trying to stand in the middle of an argument. Neutral? Absolutely not you are on his side. We have right too, hopefully the right to let him rot in the reserve with no game-time. Both side become a loser of the deal. He can kiss goodbye to his England place, we have £35m less to spend.

I have more trust in them than Barkley who has conveniently been mute while preparing to jib us off. He couldn't give a single toss about what we think and unfortunately for him the club's version of what happened is the only version on record so I won't be just holding out hope for some other possible explanation where Barkley doesn't come off as a massive gobshite for no real valid reason other than the "Sissoko farce".

Before the medical, after the medical.. makes no odds at all. He was well into talks with Chelsea.
The lad has been poorly advised for ages.

That I can agree with but at the same time I think Spurs is a better place for him than Chelsea.

I think for his career he's made the correct choice, it's just the choice has negative consequences for Everton.

He didn't cost us a transfer fee.

Not signing a new deal - write off £15m from his true value.
Screwed us over yesterday and won't leave till January the earliest - write off £20m from his remaining value if he is going in January.
Leave on a free in the summer - the words we are using are really mild here.

Screwed Royally.

He'll be at West Ham or Leicester or something in 2 years. He's not a regular in this Spurs side.

Not so sure, think he would suit Spurs style of football perfectly. There is no guarantee Ali, Errikson or Dembele will remain at Spurs for the long term, I can see him getting chances (whether he takes them or not is another thing altogether).

Time will tell. There is still a part of me hoping he has a change of heart, sacks his agent and signs a new deal here... but that's about as likely as a win at the pit.

I don't all this he has been badly advised talk. The guy is a adult. If he wanted to stay he would be staying. He has the final say on what he is doing and where he is going.

It's true, but he is proper simple... I can easily imagine an agent having a field day with him.

I've slept on it now and can think a little more rationally about it. If he doesn't sign a new deal I hope he gets a right earful. Sorry but his reasons for leaving are supposedly champions league, success and to challenge himself. Chelsea came calling. Ticking all of those boxes. His reasoning for leaving is bs. Let him rot if he doesn't sign.

This stinks of him and his agent having something in place with spurs and he's just got to wind his contract down. Think about it, all summer there's been talk of him going to spurs but spurs don't want to pay the going rate for him. And before you say he was priced out of that move ocl went for 35 with the same left on his contract. 35 is a fair price but they didn't want to pay it. Ross should be looking at that thinking they can't want me that much if they aren't going to match Chelsea's offer. The lads either got a peanut between the ears or him and his agent have pulled a fast one with spurs. Chelsea aren't going to agree a fee knowing he's injured to then pull out of the deal because of an injury they know about. When have Chelsea ever done anything like this? money means nothing to them, they just paid 35 for drinkwater.

This can now go two ways:

He signs a new deal, comes out and says he had the chance to join the champions but turned them down to help take us to the next level. He'd become a hero again.

He doesn't change his stance, decides to join another side in January for half the price - costing us millions - and becomes the biggest disappointment in the club's recent history.

Make your decision, Ross.
