See if he were say 21 or 22 that may be valid but he will soon be 24 not really a youngster in footballing terms anymore.

Funny thing is I don't see him as a Chelsea or indeed a Spurs player both demand a far greater work rate than I think he has every achieved to date and whilst his attacking instincts are up there he switches of when it comes to defending.
Still think its between West Ham and Newcastle

True, it also said he hadnt spoken to Conte so had no idea how he would be played, or anything. (Assumes that ,means he did speak to Poche I guess)

Chelsea agreed a fee though ?

Amazing he bottled it.

I still don't buy that's the full story, why would he do that i wonder? instant pay rise and all that, i dunno, i think its more a case of he agreed to hang back till Jan after talking with them or other clubs and understanding it would be mutually beneficial for player and new club to do it then

Maybe they wanted to keep a relationship with Barkley in a bid to try and start the deal again in January so they're letting him keep a bit of control over the situation. Perhaps the agent asked them to keep it quiet or anyone of a number of conspiracy theories .

In reality mate we're all guessing so who knows.
I agree we're all basically just guessing with this. And tbh the whole affair makes no sense to me anyway. But if you did sit down and try and apply common sense, Chelsea could keep the relationship open by just saying to the lad, and to Everton, that they are pulling out because of the injury and want to re-open negotiations in January. Nobody would blame them for that, not even Evertonians, well reasonable ones anyway. And there's absolutely no reasonable explanation as to why , if that happened, Barkley or his agent would want him to take the blame and all the backlash that goes with it. Even if he wanted to keep the door open to spurs his agent could do this with a phone call.

For me it isn't about conspiracy theories, I'm trying to apply common sense and nothing adds up.

All of us are trying to make sense of something without having possession of all the facts.

Chelsea just don't talk about transfers in the way other clubs do. For instance we have heard nothing from them regarding the likes of Llorente to Spurs or Ox to another team. What benefit would there be For Chelsea to out RB if they were considering going for him in Jan or at seasons end? To them it makes no difference for the fact remains he hasn't signed for them but crucially at this point in time no one else.

As for the time out. The injury was mid August. If he were out for 3 months that would mean he would be fit in mid November itsnow being said the earliest return would be Christmas which is a further month on

Highlighted bit is true. And you could apply that to the whole Barkley saga, not just the Chelsea aspect.

Here's a response I made to another post, some of which is appropriate here too.

As regards the lay off period, I read that too about Christmas, which I just put down to getting match fit, which would probably be about right seeing as he had no pre-season. I could easily be wrong like and it meant he won't be fit to play football until Christmas, which means he wouldn't be totally match fit until Feb/Mar depending upon if/when he gets transferred.

Here's FIFA rules regarding players coming to the end of their contracts

A club intending to conclude a contract with a professional must inform the player’s current club in writing before entering into negotiations with him. A professional shall only be free to conclude a contract with another club if his contract with his present club has expired or is due to expire within six months. Any breach of this provision shall be subject to appropriate sanctions.

All contracts run to 30/6 so yes from 1/1/18 clubs can talk to him.

There are all sorts of complications regarding the signing of a pre contract but one thing you can't stipulate in a binding pre contract (following rulings from the Dispute Resolution Centre at FIFA ) is that the offer is subject to either a medical or if appropriate a work permit.
I know from previous posts you're quite knowledgeable on players contracts mate. Am I not correct in saying that Ross could talk to, or enter into a pre contract agreement with an overseas club, from Jan 1st, WITHOUT Everton's agreement?
