Spurs will have themselves a bargain next summer.

Only Everton could let a £50million player run down his contract and leave on a free.

What would u suggest Everton should have done? We tried to get him to sign, he wouldn't. We tried to sell him, he wouldn't go.

Only Everton could do this? So what have Arsenal done with Sanchez? Chelsea have made a mess with Costa..

Not really sure what the club have done wrong.

How much would it cost us to release him?

The idea of Everton paying him to get fit for Spurs is galling to me.

Probably the value of the rest of his contract!

Hopefully he has something in his contract like mine where in the job role it has a catch all statement saying 'and carry out any other task we deem required', then at least we can get him cleaning the bogs etc. ;)

Don't help him with his injury, make him train alone and say we could only get £10 million for him off Spurs I would reject it and let him rot here until next summer! Totally ruin any chance to get in the World Cup squad. Thinks he can screw the club over so they should take a stand.

I really don't know what else Everton could have done either, short of actually motivating him and saying - 'Look, you are the future, you're the centre of this midfield / attack, we want you here long-term'. But then there's no sentimentality any more and £100K per week should have told that story.

We definitely look more professional than we used to and I was really impressed with the social media, the decisive transfer activity, the investment in the stadium.and then Moshiri phoned SSN and rooney went on a bender. Don't forget Moshiri has invested in Liver Building, made moves on the stadium, brought in his contacts, got USM involved, there's definitely money movements happening. We shouldnt ever let go of opportunities like we did with Tim Howard, for instance, and how we could have really cornered the american market. We need to make the most of having Rooney on board commercially and for his profile, as well as his football. These kinds of things can prove whether we are a smarter business than we used to be.

Still it's a lot better than it used to be, and we can't avoid

I know from previous posts you're quite knowledgeable on players contracts mate. Am I not correct in saying that Ross could talk to, or enter into a pre contract agreement with an overseas club, from Jan 1st, WITHOUT Everton's agreement?

Come Jan any club can talk to RB but they have to tell Everton they are going to do that Everton don't have to agree to allow the discussions can take place.

I too was of the opinion that a pre contract could only be signed with a non English / Welsh club but I am far from sure that's a football matter it's more I think to do with English/ Welsh contract law. Indeed I don't think pre contracts are mentioned in the FIFA regulations at all.

Barkley’s decision to back out of a deal and his reasons for doing so came as a complete surprise to Everton, Post sport understands.

As far as the Merseysiders were concerned all that was required to finalise the move was for the midfielder to complete a medical - which they thought was the only reason why he had travelled to London - as the transfer fee and player’s personal terms with Chelsea had already been agreed.

It is understood privately the club viewed Barkley’s choice of language in his Twitter postings as “interesting” and there has also been surprise expressed at reports suggesting the club refused to do business with Tottenham , who were also interested in the player.

It is believed conversations had been held with Spurs officials over a move to White Hart Lane but with no bid forthcoming there was no actual business to be done.

Why's it the clubs fault this is happening???????????

IF the reports are true that the club didn't offer him a new contract until the backend of last season then they're massively at fault for this situation.

Allowing a homegrown £50m asset to potentially walk away for nothing is negligence of the very highest order.
