this is essentially a lie, your campaign against a local lad is actually getting quite weird
A lie? Mate his workrate was terrible last season and was the main reason koeman singled him out
I'm talking without the ball

I'm not talking about chasing lost causes like Johnson or bent. I'm talking when he pretends to press, when his man has the ball. He jogs around and just stands in front of the player and never actually tries to get it. If I have worked that out you bet the player with the ball has.
My (uneducated) opinion on this is: like Lukaku, another big player with a huge frame, I just don't think he'd be able to do that hugely effectively even if he tried to. He improved in that regard last season, but I think given his size, energy conservation has to be taken into account. Like Lukaku, the value of his running on the ball greatly exceeds that of his running off it and I think there is a trade off here, during a game.
If your closest to the ball , and I'm not talking 20m away I'm talking 2-3m away. You have to try and win it, especially if your attacking game isn't clicking for you at the moment and your form isn't upto scratch. It's ok if the team is playing well and he is playing well , but when it's not you have to work hard to try and change your fortunes and to contribute
Fair enough. I don't think I'd level that criticism at him last season as I think a genuine effort to improve was made, perhaps due to Koeman. We saw him actually flying into a few (in fairness, actually quite clumsy and in some cases genuinely dangerous) challenges, such as the delicious snapping of Jordan Henderson.
Could you break down exactly what you mean by "balance of the squad"?
He did show improvement and I commented last year it looked like the penny had dropped and he had turned a corner.. but then he went back to his early season form and Effort
There's no link up between midfield and attack, no vision, no ball carrying midfielder to take it from defence over the half way line, or at least pick it up front the halfway line.
Klassen was brought in to do that (failing), Siggurdson can't do that, and Rooney tends to fall back to do that because we don't have it.
We've a midfield 3 that pass sideways and there's no option if they do want to go forward so opt to hit it long.
Basically a player that keeps the game and attack ticking. Which Barkley does very well at.
To me, with that it place, it makes the lack of a striker less of a burden as it allows the attack we do have to attack.
No way shape means it doesn't mean we need that striker...but it adds a balance to the team.

There's no doubt we'd have benefited from his ability to carry the ball at pace and it's unlikely he'd have performed as badly as Sigurdsson and Klaassen this season.
However, we'd still have no number 9. We'd still be fielding genuinely awful strikers or midfielders up top who are a centre back's dream and Barkley, like the others, would have no genuine threat to create for. Not that he is a particularly creative player anyway. As a relatively poor finisher, he also wouldn't be likely to contribute a great number of goals. We'd still have 90% of our problems even if he came in and performed decently well.
The exasperating thing about all this is that when Rooney plays the position, he's actually very useful, because he can actually pick a through ball, has the license to use his brain to create space for himself and mitigate his lack of pace, but has often been forced to play up top, where his physical limitations leave him exposed. When he has actually been able to play number 10, we've seen flashes of genius, but the quality of player he's asked to create for is abysmally low, making it an uphill struggle from the start.
If we want to solve the issue of link between midfield and attack, 90% of our problems lie in the striker position. If we were to bring Barkley in, little would change as he'd have as little to work with as the rest of them.

I don't take koemans word as gospel any more than your own agenda driven words, plenty of ground covered stats availableAnd how do you propose I do that?
You mean you didn't hear koeman saying ross needs to work harder and improve?
you are the one stating your opinion as a fact, the onus of proof is on youCan you please prove that if ross was playing we would have more points?
Can you also prove that he's going to improve our team as much as everyone is saying?
And can you prove he's a good player please ?
