Barkley is not a slow player he has or used to have pace and power he is certainly on form faster than the Sig etc if he is in trouble with this injury long term - He may never show anymore potential or even go backwards too risky for any club to take that gamble!
I can remember us going after a Chelsea striker our medics took their own scan machines we withdrew our offer, and TBF our medics were spot on he never played much after the players name escapes me a no 9 ?
It was in Dm tenure?

...I think Barkley is a fine mover when he gets up to speed but he doesn’t have the acceleration off the mark that the sprinter types have.

That wonder goal v Newcastle away under RM showed pace!

...that was terrific, Joey. As I say, he can shift when he gets up to speed but he’s a big unit of a man and doesn’t have that off the mark acceleration of a sprinter. It’s also why he can be a liability defensively because the livelier types go past him comfortably.

the goal against Newcastle represents Barkley at both his best and worst.

he of course showed great strength and composure, but there were probably at least four moments during the run where it made much more sense for him to have passed. and it never occurred to him even to look.

true, on that one occasion, the end justified the means. but it rarely has since.

the quintessential Barkley passage of play remains: 1) head down 2) dribble around aimlessly while the defence gets into position 3) miss/ignore open looks 4) shoot from an unlikely angle 5) first defender/row Z.

Lukaku's goal figures could have easily been at least 50% higher still had we paired him with someone aware of the play around him.

and too often, the quintessential Lukaku passage of play was 1) find a great position in the box 2) beckon, gesture, plead, beg and cajole Ross to look up and pass 3) despair as Ross repeats steps 1-5 above.

i'm not one for the childish rat/snake accusations, and if he wants to stay i would welcome it, but i think he's still quite limited by selfishness and a lack of vision and awareness, and unlikely to achieve his potential unless his on-field mentality matures. he has a goal-mouth poacher's mindset, but from behind the goal-mouth, and without any of the goals.

come at me with your chances created stats.
