It was. The first touch was out of this world and beat the entire defence but not everyone is nuanced enough to appreciate things like that. They think 30 yarders into the top corner are more impressive when really they are just hit and hope.

I really can’t believe how many people want to fight on whether England are showing more consistency with advancing under Southgate than they did before. He’s now won more knockout ties than England did post-1966 to his taking over. This is unprecedented for England!

They have a much better squad than they have had in previous tournaments and have had very favourable draws. He is better than hodgson, McClaren and Keegan though.
