Royston Drenthe

Say whatever you want.

That game was tailor made for Drenthe to come on and wreak havoc.

Moyes brought on Neville.

That one is on Moyes (and Round for not getting in his manager's ear and telling him not to put in Neville, but rather Drenthe.)

Karel Poborsky wouldn't work back either - for a time he was dynamite, going forward he was in his element, but slowly teams picked up on him not covering his defender and he had to be moved on.

Football is littered with irreplaceable widemen. Drenthe bucks his ideas up or doesn't get a contract. We do not have enough margin in the side for a luxury player - we are hard work - graft and grim determination. When we fire we put on a show. We are lucky to fire one game in four.

This is my attitude as well. We're a side built around exceptional workrate and team ethic. For one reason or another I've not seen and real evidence that Drenthe has bought a ticket to this yet.

Personally I'd love to have him on the books permanently, but pragmatically I can't see it unless there is a mind change in the next three months. Hopefully Drenthe will watch Pienaar's work and movement and benefit. We've no place for passengers.

I refer you to my post earlier. Here it is in it's exactness:

"Because all 3 are at the club as wide players, like it or not. When Cahill went off Anichebe should have come on in his stead."

Nothing about rigidity at all. Only an inference that the manager sees them as wide players. I make this assumption because he has yet to play any of them in the role behind a lone striker. Not that any of them wouldn't be capable of doing that, you understand.

As I also said in the post, my preference would be to play a 2nd striker in that position. Today that would have been Anichebe, because I think he deserves it due to his recent performances and goals.

I didn't mean to put words in your mouth but I just think the assertion that they're wide players and that's why they're not playing centrally is nonsense. Whether it is your own believe or just Moyes'.

Landon has played centrally for us for brief spells and Pienaar has played a lot of games centrally for us. Moyes is willing to do it, he just elected to push Fellaini up as he loves a target man.

Drenthes work rate is superb, he doesn't stop running with or without the ball. Theres never a time you see him just slouching on the halfway line.

Hes just too gun-hi and can't tackle.

I disagree. Did you see the one the other week in our own area where he wrapped his foot around, won the ball and came away with it?

He does know how to tackle.

He is too gung-ho, you're right there. But then each appearance is like an audition for him. If he was given a regular place in the team I think he'd settle down a bit.
