Running

Maiden marathon training has started over the past few weeks (Manchester in April) looking forward to it and going okay so far :)
I’m doing the Moray Marathon, again, 2 weeks earlier so my training has started. I’m trying to up my mileage and run 4 times a week, as opposed to my usual 3 times and must admit I’m finding it hard going. I’ve done one 16 miler so far , maybe another 16 or 14 next week. I’m trying to get/stay 2 weeks ahead of my schedule to allow for injury/ illness/ Scottish weather taking a week or two out of my training.
Good luck for Manchester !

Best of luck brother! Sure you'll smash it.

Done 9 miles for the first time in a while this morning along the prom and enjoyed it. Currently predicting 3:50 but we'll see how the next couple of months goes!

How much food should you eat during marathon training? If you’re doing 30 to 50 miles a week plus a couple of gym workouts do you need to be smashing the food in?
Yes ! Hydration too as well as food is very important. If you don’t eat/ drink well your training tiredness will quickly catch up with you and you’ll plateau instead of improving or worse have little energy for your long runs. As soon as I finish a run I take a recovery drink , it helps replenish and rehydrate. I use Tailwind , other brands available . I also take “ energy gels” on my long runs and for the marathon itself . My problem is I can’t take more than two when you really need many more . Marathon Nutrition is a whole science in itself there is so much info on it for your training, what to eat in the days before and morning of the race and how many carbs etc you need during the race.
If you’ve got more specific questions pop them in here, somebody will answer .

Anyone else been running in all of this snow and ice ?

It`s tough going.

Yesterday was ankle deep slush, today it was like trying to run an ice rink

Needless to say all of the runs this week, have been more of a jog, walk and try to stay on your feet !!!!
Not particularly my favourite time of the year, but always enjoy running in snow, sadly as a southerner it's just slush at best.
Slipped and fell on my backside last week just on a slightly camber, very funny. Enjoy getting off-road in the Hokas.
Am up for the game tomorrow, but leaving the trainer's behind sadly, a walk to the new stadium to clear the head at best, on Friday likely.

Yeah I’ve just been taking it easy over the fields to keep ticking over - it’s hard doing any kind of intervals cos the paces aren’t comparable and I’m too weak minded to use perceived effort
