I'd say we're the 8th best to be fair. Probably was about 10th before Walcott joined.

There's hardly anything to call between about 7 or 8 teams in this league though. It's only Coleman and Walcott that put us above the likes of Watford on paper. We have a lot of average to terrible players, whether people want to admit it or not.

The argument I held was that we could have appointed a long term manager instead of a short term, the summer will be more upheaval again. Hes an awful manager with a disgusting attitude, he’s hung the players out to dry when it hasn’t worked and took the credit when it did.

I despise the man
But unfortunately nobody wanted to take us on,short or long term Except Allardyce.

There's the top 6 and then not much between the next 13 (bar WBA who are atrocious). I'm not saying we're good cause we aren't. But we are in a place in the table that I think we should be. I certainly don't think we've over achieved. We should be 7th or 8th really.

No matter how worried we were, the fact is that we haven't even come close to relegation. We have 40 points with 7 games left in a season where 37 will probably be enough. And that's despite a raft of diabolical results from Christmas until the beginning of this month. The relegation worries were overstated. We were never doomed. We were 16th at worst. People are trying to use revisionism to cover up their panic.

If a manager had taken us down this season it would have been the worst job performed since the premier league was formed.

What does that even mean? Are you saying the manager and players have deliberately thrown games to try and keep us in a relegation battle?
No. I'm saying that the managers negative tactics against some of the bottom 13 teams have cost us points. IMO those tactics have probably cost us 5/10 times the points they have gained us.

Walcott and Tosun coming in along with Coleman and Baines returning to full fitness have made a difference and
That's the point I was making in my initial post when I said I was confident of getting 7th. The return of key players from injury and the opportunity to bring in a striker in the window.

Maybe. Maybe not.

But at the time, after Southampton, I could easily more negatives than positives. In fact, I dont think there was a positive.

Well yeah, I agree with that. No one is disputing that Allardyce cannot take us any further than mid table due to this mindset, and you'll be hard pushed to find anyone that wants him to start next season as our manager. But for the position we were in at that moment in time, I can understand the appointment. Our season had been torpedoed by the former manager and DOF, and regardless of whether people want to admit it, we were in the midst of a crisis.

But to get 7th we needed more than a striker. We still needed a new defence which we didn't get, and that's why we won't finish 7th this season. Unless we somehow do a madness and pick up 4 points from City and Liverpool, 7th is not happening. And it shouldn't, because we don't deserve it.

And I can understand why Moshiri made that decision. If I had £250m at risk my cheeks would be trembling too. But it wasn't my money and I think he panicked.

And I'm not making any praises of anybody by saying I think we have the 7th best squad. The reality is, even if we finish 7th and qualify for Europe, we have still made a huge backward step this season. I was expecting to close the gap on the teams above us, maybe even be a offering challenge for a CL spot, but the truth is the gap has widened massively.

Mate. The more we post the more I think this isn't a case of me rating our squad higher than you do. It's a case of you rating other teams squads higher than I do.

If that makes sense.

Maybe if I put it a different way. Everton have the 14th worse squad in the Premier League.
