Maybe. Maybe not.

But at the time, after Southampton, I could easily more negatives than positives. In fact, I dont think there was a positive.

We are undoubtedly lucky that there are so many bad teams and it's such a poor year for the league. But if anything that makes the Allardyce an even bigger panic decision.

I'll admit that getting battered by that appalling saints team is pathetic and embarassing, but it's just symptomatic of how we play like a completely different side away from home. Our home form never completely fell away. Even games like that Watford one we found a way to get a result and that's why I think all the "we're doomed" shouts were over the top.

Dont think anyone is saying it wasnt a panic move to get him in.

But at the time, we were dreadful. We looked the worst side in the league at the time.

But to get 7th we needed more than a striker. We still needed a new defence which we didn't get, and that's why we won't finish 7th this season. Unless we somehow do a madness and pick up 4 points from City and Liverpool, 7th is not happening. And it shouldn't, because we don't deserve it.

We definitely don't deserve it on the basis of the season up to now. There's been many reasons why we've struggled, but I think we forget too easily that we have had some bad luck along the way. You mention defenders : losing both Baines and Coleman for half the season was a disaster, that's the kind of thing would affect any team. In the summer we'd brought in Michael Keane, he looked a good prospect, he was just breaking into the England setup, then what happened ? Williams loses his form completely, Jagielka was making mistakes all over the place as well, as a result Keane suffers a loss of confidence. In January we bring in another defender, Mangala, he plays one game in his lucky 13 shirt then gets injured, that's it, his season over. That's what our season's been like. Bolasie's injury has forced us to use players like Sigurdsson out of his best position. Bolasie comes back and Sigurdsson finally starts showing some signs of form, then Sigurdsson gets injured.

Amount of losses over entire premier league season under Roberto's last season: 13
Amount of losses this season with 8 games to go: 13
Goals conceded 15/16: 55
Goals conceded with 8 to go this season: 50

Must go

Just proves that 3 managers in a season isnt that great an idea.
This (in bold) is undoubtedly true but it is not the only thing it proves. We are still conceding too many goals and we are still failing to produce enough chances in games. There is not enough of an improvement to support the argument that Allardyce is even a medium term solution, he has failed, in my opinion at least, to demonstrate that even after spending £50m in a transfer window that he can regularly bring winning football to the club. The next two games will tell us if we have made any real progress.

Was you that confident after the Southampton game? I genuinely feared we were going if we carried on the way we were. I think Allardyce was an evil necessity.
I genuinely didn't think we would go down. Not that I was confident in our playing side. Just there are some truly gash sides in the league much worse than us.

They will indeed. Wasnt defending him, just pointing out that any team needing 3 managers is in a mess.

But somehow we sit 8th.

Not that I want him to stay but he wasn't here for all the hidings we have had.

Plus (as part of a collective) we will still get more points than Roberto's last season and at the end of the day the stats you show aren't good but it is the number of points you get that count. For instance if you draw every game 1-1, not only do we match the Arsenal invincibles of remaining unbeaten, you also have great stats in terms of goals conceded, no of defeats but you still could be relegated with 38 points.

Not back then there wernt mate. We looked woeful.

We looked dreadful under Koeman this season...signings made with no plan and Cuco at left back + a reticence to use Kenny...

Unsworth came in and brought some positivity and then Allardyce got us a fair amount of points on the board straight away...

I was quite positive on both Rhino and Allardyce but now fall in line with the new manager requirement...

We should thank Allardyce for keeping us up and appoint someone new...

Hopefully he can get us into 7th and then he can also walk away with his head held high.

Its not a 13 game season though. Im glad korman get jettisoned but I really think any manager would be able to do what Sam has done.

You may well be right mate, but if so, why did we take 5 or 6 weeks to appoint him?

I dont think it was because the application list was so long it took 5 weeks to interview them all.

If it looks like I am an advocate for him, I am not. Just trying not to rewrite history.
