Just as much as I am worried he's staying nothing has been said about his long term future beyond the eighteen a month contract since he was appointed. We are nearly in April, I would have expected more to be said about his long term by the board if he was staying. So it could go either way, I hope he's gone personally.

I think it depends on 2 things really. Firstly if Fonseca has said yes and will give them the nod. If not on how we finish the season. If we win 3 games, particularly the derby, finish top half etc I can see him staying.

I get your point re continuity and stability and generally agree (for example with Hindsight we should never have sacked Koeman) however I just can't see it with Allardyce. Currently 90%+ of fans want him gone on polls, I'm just not sure any managers position is tenable give those numbers. The only thing stopping that contagion spreading is the acceptance from many he will be gone by the summer with continued reports of Fonseca/Brands.

If he is still here, it's hard not to see enormous pressure from game 1 next season and unless a flying start is made, it really spilling over. Potential protests within the stadium but also protests becoming more generalised towards the board and Moshiri. We have a very good window, of the summer to find a new manager, it's very hard mid season (as we found this year) and it would be an enormous mistake to not replace Sam in the summer for me, as it's hard to see us doing anything other than wasting another year on self imposed transition if we don't.

The final point, is that young players, who were meant to be a key pillar of our strategy will be ousted under him. Cookman will leave, and the likes of Dowell, Connolly, Klaassen, will not be given game time.

I agree with you, I don't think it's automatic he goes, but god help us if he doesn't.
I think it’s folly to replace him with any other manager simply for the sake of it.

If they can go out and get Simeone in the first week after the season ends great. Same for any other proven manager.

If we’re gonna have another no mark such as Marco Silva, then I’m not sure that would lead anywhere either.

So stick with Allardyce and his ho hum "play for a draw away" style of management?

Go with the crap hoofball footy we have had to watch since he's been here?

No, I'd rather go with the unknown than what limited ability Allardyce has to offer.

He's not the man to take us forward and so we need to take a chance on someone else. Everyone should see that.

Going into next season under Allardyce is message to all of us that we might as well not bother paying any attention to the club as they limp into mid-table once again under this useless responsible-for-nothing-but-the-wins ballbag. He will only take us away from where we need to go as a club, not closer.

I agree. Silvia is not the answer to this problem.

We’ve played well against them twice already this season, both under him.

Given the choice I’d still change manager but all I mean is, if he is here next season, sometimes continuity and stability are a good thing.
But he only has a year left. So what happens next summer. Give sam a new 3 year deal? Or get rid and appoint a new manager, who plays the same negative football, just to keep the continuity like you say.

At some point in the future to have any chance of competing at the top. We need a manger who plays an attacking style. Now when ever that happens there is going to be upheaval and it will take time for the new manger to implement his style.

For me it should happen sooner rather than later

The only way you should be arguing for Sam to stay after the season ends is if you actually believe in your heart of hearts that he, of the Bisto and Bovril persuasion, is actually the man to build us into a force to be reckoned with for the future and will take us up the table.

....And if you actually do believe that.

Silva may be the answer, we don’t know. Same with Fonseca, whom I’d prefer.

We are not going to attract finished-article managers certainly, used to winning in the major European leagues.

So we carry the burden of a much greater risk of failure than the clubs we hope to compete with.

It all comes down to a vigorous and thorough search process, and a large slice of luck. There is too much bumbling and short-termism at Everton, the club should always have its eye on its next manager and keep tabs on the best emerging coaches. Patently that wasn’t the case when Koeman was sacked. You have to have contingency planning, but you also have to know what you want and who is best to deliver.

It wouldn’t be too difficult to write the script if Allardyce stays on into next season. I’d rather we took a punt on a Silva or Fonseca and see where it leads us. The risks are high but the potential for reward is also high. I want us to be bold and ambitious, it isn’t about a big name manager, it’s about the best fit for the club and getting someone who has the potential to transform our fortunes given the right support.
