Wasn't pretty today, quite the opposite, but it was mostly effective and we came away from Mordor with a point which no-one really expected.
Job done, and now Sam has to continue his work on making us solid at the back, and, with a couple of signings in January, we might even start to look more effective going forward against decent opposition.

Sadly, the cup tie will likely come too early for us to have signed a striker, but, if we'd been battered 4-0 today, we'd have gone into that tie with even less confidence than we did today. If we can do the same on the 5th Jan and get 'em back to Goodison who knows what might happen.

I agree, but I suspect Baccy Teeth will want revenge given the tantrum he is throwing.

The big question for me is how he spends a decent budget and manages a team with expectations of getting into Europe. He’s clearly tactically astute, but it’s the unknown for him in that regard.

A point against a team who just put 7 past their previous opposition is a good result. We looked assured in defence.

Imagine if we had a decent striker and a midfielder who could make things happen...
Yeah, today was classic Big Sam - and you can’t expect anything else in his first games at the club. But what comes next is a bit of an unknown.

It’ll be interesting to see firstly if he gets a decent budget for the January window, and whatever he does get, it’ll be interesting to see how he spends it.

We don’t need short-term survival players. I hope he can be a bit more progressive in his transfer strategy.

The January window will tell us a lot, I think.

He did exactly what he said he would do in the buildup.

Allardyce on the derby: "It's about handling a team that I have to admit is in the best form since Jurgen arrived and one of the best strike forces in the Premier League. Have to master that before we think about can we get the ball in the right areas to score."

When Big Sam hears the Kopites are fuming over the pen!

After the Saints game things looked really desperate. This is a critical period for our club with the new stadium on the horizon relegation is unthinkable which is why they opted for Sam. We are just about clear of the relegation zone now so hope we don’t panic in January with quick fix signings

We panicked when we appointed him
