The man said himself after the game he’s doing the best he can, he can’t do any more. That’s the first honest thing that’s come out of his mouth since taking the job and it’s exactly why he shouldn’t be in charge next year. What’s the point in keeping a manager who knows himself this is as good as it will ever be under him. Some will argue we’re fooling ourselves in thinking we can break into that elite gaggle of teams but what’s the point in competing if you don’t aspire to be better and sadly for Sam we simply can’t be better with him in charge. He’s achieved his goal and kept us up and made an awful lot of money in the process and let’s be honest it’s probably the easiest money he has, and will ever make. This week the club have the chance to let him go – either with immediate affect or by saying he will leave after the last game. Announce it in a classy way that allows the fans to feel appeased, allows Allardyce to walk away with his pride, ego and reputation very much intact and sends a statement to all those pundits that feel we should be grateful just to make up the numbers that Everton’s moto still stands for something.

Allardyce flanked by Sammy Lee and Ferguson on the bench and Walsh operating between them and the board are locked in position by a group of senior players like Rooney, Baines and Jagielka.

That right there is cause for great concern as they have a strangle hold on this club as we move toward a decision on its direction.

The forces of conservatism and self-interest are winning out lads. At least another season to come in the doldrums on the pitch.

Elstone's supposed departure will tell us everything. If he is replaced from within, then it will be literally business as usual.

It is a golden opportunity for Moshiri to appoint outside of the old boys club and shake that foundation to its core. If one falls, they are all vulnerable.

We will always be playing catch-up on the pitch until we have real leadership off of it.

That'll go to another flunky, whether inside or outside the club atm.

Think you could be right on this, and just looking at it from Moshiri's perspective and not a supporter's one, it makes sense to an extent.

Finishing 8th-10th this season means that we aren't going to be that attractive a proposition to a manager with prestige. So we will be having to look at lesser managers like Silva who are a risk. Allardyce has come in and got us out of the chaos we were in (whether people want to argue it was 17th or 13th doesn't change the fact that we were conceding a lot of goals, and losing a lot of matches). The players are coming out and backing him, and the results and league position have improved, despite getting off to an awful start under Koeman (not helped by the tough fixture list I accept).

With some better players brought in over the summer, it wouldn't be too far fetched to imagine we could get a top 7/8 finish next season with no Europe to contend with, and hopefully an easier start.

Meanwhile if the Stadium project continues to progress, maybe Moshiri will see 7th-8th as reasonable stability for the time being, and then once the Stadium move is nailed on, he can go for another 'Hollywood' type manager as he puts it. With the new Stadium within 2-3 years at that stage, we would be a far better proposition to a higher level of Manager who may buy in to Moshiri's 'project', especially if told they have a lot of money to spend.

Frustrating in the short term for the fans, but I can see Moshiri potentially seeing it like this. He isn't an Everton fan, so doesn't have the emotion attached like we do and will want stability. Allardyce gives that, albeit an underwhelming stability.
Having 90% of fans vehemently against the manager is not stability mate.

We haven't had to put up with this for 5 months and fans are already at rebellion point. Imagine what another season would do.

I think his treatment of Lookman and his sporadic use of Vlasic tells you all you need to know about his views on youth
He’s the anti Zat

All it tells me is Lookman asked for a loan (and is hardly pulling up any trees at Liepzig) and Vlasic aint that good at this point.

Are Davies, Baningime and Calvert-Lewin not classed as youth any more?

Sadly, Duncan seems to have morphed quite readily into a Merry Man.

;) spot on IMO

My concern is who do we bring in to replace Sam more importantly who is making this decision

to have a repeat of when Koeman left would be suicidal , the timing of this appointment is not ideal with the World Cup coming up , the DOF should be involved and Walsh doesnt exactly fill me with confidence therefore would prefer it that Brands is involved before the decision is made ?
We need big changes this summer. Priority (chronological wise) should be DOF, manager, CEO.

If it is to be Brands lets do it now so he can have an input into the choice of manager he is going to have to work with.

I wouldn't be surprised either if there was some fudge such that different camps each get a bit of what they want.

For example, Allardyce sacked on condition an in-house CEO is appointed.

Allardyce stays but Walsh leaves etc.

There can be endless permutations with this, all to the clubs detriment.

I hope Moshiri doesn't continue to indulge as he has previously.

Sooner or later, the music stops and he will have nobody to pass the hot potato onto, in the fans eyes.

I have been looking at the team put out by Sam each week and in general he has gone for safety and experience.

I wonder if playing Vlasic today is a sign that he believes he will be here next season and is starting to look at some squad players.
I think it’s him trying to give that impression till he gets next season , then it’s back to tried and trusted
