I'd rather try and fail than settle for average. With Allardyce we will never improve. With Allardyce we won't even get closer to getting there. That's not acceptable to me. It's not a cop out.

We had 12 years of stability and it got us nowhere ultimately. Close at times but never any cigar. Stability is a nonsense argument when there is nothing left worth preserving.
We’ve taken the more ambitious managerial route in the 4 years prior to Allardyce with near disastrous results.

Martinez was actually sacked before the final game so god knows what reception he would have received there.
Let's see how the away fans treat the manager for the last game. I'm going to stick my neck out and say 90 minutes of "f off Sam allardyce" will be the order of the day. He should just be glad his last game in charge is away so the abuse will be less intense.

I dont know about this. Other teams don't need a big transition year to get back in. A good coach with a proper transfer strategy, and a proper football strategy with tactics etc can take us to immediate success. I just feel like are ambitions are so low now that the club can get away with so many mediocre meaningless seasons, in which we will still gobble up the new shirts, season tickets and turn up in huge numbers to away matches, that it looks like we're happy.

I can name more teams that have had/need a big transition year than I can't - United, Chelsea, Arsenal (will do now), City, have all had one or two to find a balance.

And you think a "A good coach with a proper transfer strategy, and a proper football strategy with tactics etc can take us to immediate success," will happen over one season? With our squad?

Ever since the Dutch Meathead left I've always said he's set us back at least 2 seasons, this being a write off.

It's all down to who comes in next which is a huge question mark.

Koeman and Martinez both had to be removed with immediate effect. Koeman left us in the relegation zone and the stadium based protests against Martinez in particular were far in excess of anything seen against Allardyce.

It was utterly toxic atmosphere which was there during an FA Cup semi-final too.
