Close to 50 million in managers in three years isnt good mate, its naive to think it doesn't have a material impact, in my opinion. Its far from the most optimal way to run a business.

Comparing us to Chelsea is madness when you consider the budgets involved,, they are far superior when it comes to revenue and access to funds, the model can work for them as a result but for us it eats massively into our bottom line.

I wasn`t comparing us to Chelsea in any way, I just used them as an example.

Paying managers compo is part and parcel of the whole thing now, unless your Bournemouth, Huddersfield, etc and are happy floating around the bottom of the league every season, the fans expect more.

After that Saints away game I thought we were going down so was happy for Sam to come in on the basis that it was only to the end of the season to maintain our top flight status.

He got off to a successful start and we were actually looking pretty secure by the turn of the year. The last few months have therefore been an opportunity for him to show that he is capable of employing a progressive style of football but it has not happened. The performances have been turgid. Some of the statistics have been embarrassing.

It has not helped that our neighbours are playing (alongside City) the most entertaining football in the league and smashing in goals left right and centre. At a time when we are looking to build a bigger stadium that needs to be filled we are in danger of losing the next generation of supporters if we don’t take action and get the feel good factor back ASAP

WE WERE NEVER GOING TO GO DOWN!!!!!!!!

Grand mate, i was just giving context on why the comparison is different.

I disagree with that general philosophy as surely the idea of recruiting a manager is to have one who is successful and be there for a long period of time. As such i reject the idea of its just part of the game etc.

I know where you are coming from, that argument can be a dangerous one to, as a premise that was actioned at WBA, Stoke and Southampton this year. I am not saying its all or nothing, im just raising the content as it applies for Everton.

I think the compensation issue is one that cant be underestimated, put it this way, the level of compensation we will have paid to managers in three years, will probably eclipse the debt we would have historically had under the Kenwright years for about 15 years. I think its an issue that cant be minimised.

I find it alarming generally the vast amount of money wasted on players and managers in the last two years.

I’d like the club to continue spending but we have to do so within the limits of budgetary constraints, and if we continue with the slack model employed, we are heading for the rocks sooner or later, without even mentioning still having not secured funding for BMD.

We all want expensive shiny new signings and I also agree it’s necessary to pay Allardyce off. But first and foremost we need strong leadership and operational discipline.

From a purely business perspective, this starts with keeping Allardyce.

Same here. We may not like Sam's style of football but he has done what he was asked to do. I think the reason he insisted on a two season deal is that he knew he'd probably be hounded out after the end of the first season. You can't really blame him either.

It was rumoured we only wanted to offer him a 6 month deal mate, and the reason he wanted an 18 month deal (apart from him having us by the balls after we went back cap in hand) was because he wanted to get away from his tag of being a manager who you only got in when your team was fighting relegation (like we supposedly were :hayee:)

WE WERE NEVER GOING TO GO DOWN!!!!!!!!

Think that’s going to be the focus of on-going discussions for a long time. I share the thought though that the way we were playing was indicative of a team going in only one direction. We were relying on Kenny who was badly exposed that day especially the time he got caught up field and they broke away to score. Coleman’s return was generally unknown and whether when he came back he would be successful, we were relying on Martina playing out of position, Keane looked shot, Snciderlin was useless, Gylfi was struggling to adapt and we didn’t look like scoring and were relying on DCL to play the main striker role. Coupled with the fact that it looked like the players weren’t responding to
Unsworth and he looked so under pressure.

I work with a Swansea fan and back then we agreed that their game at The Liberty could end up a relegation six pointer, all the signs were there.

It’s one of those great unknowns thankfully but for me at that point we were in greater threat of going down that staying up.

Now, whether SA was the right appointment, well that’s another discussion!!
