Im looking out for their results as I have a soft spot for Davie. Anyone else doing that?

Not sure I'd call it a soft spot, but I'm definitely an interested observer. Notwithstanding his well documented faults he was a decent manager for us achieving consistent respectable finishes in the league. I always thought the Utd job would be too much for him but I am mystified buy how badly he has done since leaving us. It will be interesting to see if he salvaged his reputation at West Ham.

Back on topic, I think we'll probably endure similar frustrations under Big Sam as we did under Moyes. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

It was a sarcastic remark to win 4-0 our best win of the season was nice for Unsy last game!
Some posters attribute it to Sam and he did nothing for that game it would have been illegal he had not signed his contract!
illegal??

How do you work that one out? The Club is allowed anyone it wants in our own changing room before matches and ay half time (unless banned from the Stadium) and the manager can take advise from whoever the hell he wants. Are you forgetting that Managers are sometimes mates and talk about the best ways of breaking down mutual opposition when it suits them? Certainly not illegal.

Are you forgetting that in Sams game for England he gave Rooney a free role in deep midfield where he did fantastically. Amazing how Unsworth suddenly decided to try it with Sam in the Stadium. Is it beyond belief that Unsworth asked Sam what he'd like to see? or that Sam gave him some ideas. Hell, just being in the Stadium watching would be enough for the players to realise their time extracting the urine with their performances was over, they knew they had to step up or ship out.

Yes the official party line will be he had no effect, that's to give all the credit to Unsworth after being in charge for a month. But to say Sam definitely had no effect or input would be silly, and they it would be illegally if he did, doubly so.

It would be a risk chance if a non manager selected the team if the opposition found out !

What about the 4 games since though Joe, where we're unbeaten conceding 1 goal?

Unsworth would have overseen a record Premier League defeat at Anfield.

why? what difference does it make to them?
There are Clubs where the Owner/Chairman has a say in the team, they dictate tactics in some cases.

what difference would it make if Sam had a chat with Mourinho the week before the Derby to see to confirm his own suspicions or ask him what they specifically targeted? At the end of the day the Manager makes the decision and he can ignore the advice if he wants.

If we'd have lost against West Ham then nobody would have batted an eyelid as he'd lost most of his games before that and Sam was taking over the next day. The fact we suddenly played in a different way and put a shift in for the first time in months shows some external effect acted on the Team. Sam having talked to the Team, and Unsworth before the match, and sitting in the Crowd with the players knowing he was going to be in charge of their future at the Club is an obvious external effect.

As I say, all involved will have played down Sams involvement due to respect for Unsworth taking his last game, but it is obvious to see.

You live in alice in wonderland and the players and he selected the team - he took the training, and stood in the dugout, yet Sam in the stands was the Fat controller?
FGS that was unsworths team and we won 4-0 stop trying to credit Sam with that win if we had got beat who would you have blamed?

You weren't at the Watford game then.......?

ifs and buts and pots and pans yes I love us winning bring it on - but the style of football when we get safe has to improve that's my point atm Sam has a tough job to get wins, after the January window will we see flair players??

Joey....Alladyce already had one foot in the door already. I am sure Unsworth and all the players were aware that Alladyce was to be the new manager and that game was like a audition for the players. There had to be some influence from BFS directly or indirectly. One thing we were all aware of was that Unsie was not up to the job.

I'm not saying that at all.
was merely saying that Unworth and the Players would have known he was coming in after that game. Sam spoke with the players before the game, that's a matter of record. He also had a chat with Unsworth earlier on.

Did Sam pick the team? no,
Did Sam pick the tactics? no.

Did the players know Sam was taking over and that he'd be in the crowd and talking to them afterwards? 100%
Did Sam mention to Unsworth playing Rooney that far back? something Unsworth hadn't thought of before but Sam had at England? possibly, perhaps Unsworth knew how Sam had used him before and decided to give it a shot? who knows?
Did Sam mention other things to Unsworth that he either implemented or ignored? perhaps.
Did Sam make it known to the players what he wanted to see in terms of effort? almost certainly.

Was Sam in charge? No. Did he have an influence? yes.

it's not that difficult

You do know that, Joey never ever gives in, don't you ?.

Just agree with him, it's much easier that way ;)

I think that will be the crux of how SA will be viewed, if we bring in flair and pace and we see improvements he may get a bit more acceptance from the fan base. It is intriguing to watch as I even guess for SA this is most probably the highest profile role he has undertaken... besides the England job
