They are 4th in the table, scored about 40 goals and spanked the "top ranked" team in their Champions League group 7-0. In fact, they've won two group games 7-0 in the same season, which I'm certain has never been done before. I think it's safe to conclude that they're a very dangerous side and a point away from home against them with our haphazard squad is a pretty fantastic result.
It's a good result. It's not a fantastic result, because 4 of the other 8 PL teams they've played at home have got the same result as we did. It's nowhere near as good as our result against City on that basis, as we're the only team to manage that.

Allardyce is doing just fine without us needing to try to make out like he's working miracles.

No mate, now you're giving us your opinion on Martinez (who you are obsessed with).

What you originally said was:

"people happy to see him relegate us because he had a reputation for passing football"

Which, of course, is nonsense. Even the most staunch Martinez admirers like myself and @davek agreed that the football broke down and he deserved to go.

In any event, at least under Martinez we could create a meaningful attack- a trait missing during the 18 months of Koeman's tenure.

I quite like Allardyce but he needs to get us playing better football if we are to break into the top 6.

This is very tough with the position Koeman put us in. Even he would've struggled get top 6 and would've probably been sacked by the end of the season.

Sam came in 5 games ago, with a working brief to sort out the mess that Koeman had left us in.

His first job was to work on a defence that had conceded 46 goals in 22 competitive games, prior to his appointment.

5 games played 2 goals conceded, so far, so good.

Today is his 20th day in charge, i doubt he has even got round to working on any other part of our game plan yet.

Judging by his interviews so far, he doesn't even know all our players names properly yet.

Lets just calm our thoughts of breaking into the top 6 for for a while and give him build on the start he's made.

The football in his last 2 seasons was far worse than what Allardyce has produced. Utterly turgid negative passing, three holding midfielders at times, two left backs, three number 10s, it was woeful.

I remember going 1 up at Newcastle through Kone and knowing we’d still get beat we were playing that poorly. Newcastle were one of the worst sides in the division that year too.

We saw poor character rather than poor football in that period. It'll be the other way around with SA.

I dont dislike Allardyce but his commitment to football is zero. It's all about showing character.

Results are good. But its all about effort.

I fear for Allardyce if/when the results dry up for a few weeks.

He really is here on sufferance. I think we all know that.

To me he seems like he's planning for an eventual dip so it gives him a look at what's needed in Jan.

It's refreshing to hear him in interviews as he strikes me as someone who is just wading through [Poor language removed] that Koeman left. Making a point that we've got 30 players, injuries, and academy players. Unless they're not willing to play, fit a style, or aren't good enough, they're going to be gone.

This isn't Koeman "like it or leave" style either, I think he's giving everyone a chance and rightly keeping the players that are making it hard for him to drop.

The feller sees things how they are not what we want them to be imo.

The ball is in his court Dave.

A decent league position, with some decent footy played along the way, maybe a cup run and he puts himself in a strong position.

Who he brings in and ships out in January, is going to be crucial to the length of his tenure.

His house well stinks of a greasy spoon, I bet he wears a vest in the house that’s covered in baked bean and egg stains
