He had Bolton in fifth. It's not that laughable really.

His best ever finish was 6th, can’t argue. But let’s put some context into this; when he finished sixth with Bolton he did it with 58 points. City and spurs were nowhere to be found, and overall the league was far weaker. For him to get us champions league football you’re probably looking at aiming for around 2 points per game- RS in 4th last year finished with 76 points which is bang on 2 points per match.

However funnily enough Allardyce is currently on two points per game for us. By my own words I have to concede that’s champions league form. And we need look no further than Burnley to see that an attractive style of football isn’t paramount to climbing the table. But I’d have to argue that the top 6 all play dominant, forward thinking football and try and win every game they play. For us, I can happily accept days like today and at Anfield over the spankings we had in these games the last few years provided that in the games against the lesser opposition we go out and show a lot more- that we go out to win and win well. Although we do need more of a counter attacking plan and threat in these big games that goes beyond the hoofing we’ve seen today and at Anfield. We were lucky in both games and anyone saying otherwise is blinkered. The plan seemed to be to hold them off and pray for a mistake/set piece. My feeling is that Sam is quite happy to lose these games 1-0 and that’s a little too negative for me, but I accept that’s speculation on my part.

So there’s no middle ground then. Either park the allardyce stagecoach or get a hammering
Against better teams at the moment why not? If we do it against the baggies then I would be peeved but if we win I will get over it. We have to be a bit realistic until he has sorted Koeman's mess of a squad out.

3-3 draws at the arsenal are much better

The exercise is to stay in the games against the top sides. Say that Chelsea were winning 1-0 that Keane chance at the end could have gotten a point, if you are losing by 2/3 goals then you have next to zero chance.

Was not enthusiastic at his signing and, bar a period at the start of one West Ham season, I haven’t historically got much enjoyment out of the football his teams have served on a level other than trolling their opponents (Mourinho’s 19th century meltdown a particular highpoint).

But he has done wonders with our defensive solidity and he hasn’t hesitated in using the kids from the academy which is an important issue for me so Allardyce is significantly outperforming my expectations of him to date.
