He tried, and succeeded, in not getting beaten. 1 more point gained.

Should he set us out to win or to not get beaten? And believe me there is a difference.

It’s important to remember that most managers (not the ones not in the top 6 who target victory 90% of the time unless they’re playing each other) look at groups of games and upcoming fixtures as opposed to just taking it one game at a time. As such it’s perfectly acceptable for Sam to play for a point at Anfield and against Chelsea- provided of course he’s targeting appropriate results and performances in other fixtures. Yesterday was neither. It was negative, mid to lower table football. We’re in a pretty comfortable position now (Sam deserves some credit for this) and yesterday we should have been playing for a victory. It honestly makes me sad that people think yesterday was a “good away point”. And the question I have to ask is, why did he fear West Brom so much that he set us up the way he did?

I’m sure we can all stomach to an extent parking the bus a bit in certain matches- yesterday was not one of those matches.

We could not keep a clean sheet and could not score. That is relegation form by anyone's standards.

We have played rubbish against Chelsea and the RS for years, yet the difference (and its a pretty sizable one..) is that we actually picked up points this time.

Form, it was just bad form.

I agree with getting the point, but the lad said we outplayed them....we didnt.

Hearing him descripe it as a a "great point" smacks of the sam of old.....he will not change, and we will not do anything under him.[a
Allardyce came to the club with one primary aim, to steer us clear of relegation. Once he has achieved that, in order for him to see out his contract, both the owners and himself will know that he will have to start being more adventurous, playing more attacking football and going for wins against inferior sides.

However, if you listen to what he says on this video from 1 minute onward, he's now doing exactly what he described there and it's quite clearly working as we have now kept 5 clean sheets in 7 since he's been in charge, haven't lost under him yet, and have conceded the least amount of goals in the whole league.

To sum up what he says above: "It's pretty simple really, the only way Everton will get a win is by providing a clean sheet. And that is the only way forward at this moment in time, until January, when they can go out and try and find a goalscorer."

So to me it's quite clear that his number 1 aim, every game is to try and get a clean sheet/concede as few as possible and hope that the quality in the team can provide enough in attack to snatch games. and that is exactly what has happened.

He's been excellent since he's come in and is exactly what we needed at this moment in time. Quite clearly though, once we get clear of any relegation fears he is going to have to adapt his style and try and push us on. If he can't do that, he'll be thanked by the club for proving he was the right man in the short term, but not the man to take us on long term. Think everyone involved will take that.

Glad you posted that link.

I was remembering that interview when it was on and I thought Sam made some very sensible comments.

Now we are seeing him actually putting it into practice and much as I was appalled at yesterday's negativity, I can't argue with the results.

January will tell the tale ;)

People have short memories.

Six weeks ago we were in a tailspin towards the Championship despite a talented and expensively assembly squad.

Look at us now: unbeaten having outplayed both the RS and Chelsea

hope you memory is at least 33 years long kid then you will remember what you did in belgium to them poor 39 souls.

Ha ha most of our team injured and nothing upfront what do people want? I don't like seeing our team humiliated on a weekly basis and I bet everyone on here was begging for clean sheets 4 weeks ago. I did not want Sam at this club but he is here exceeding my expectations. Get behind our miracle worker.
Niasse should have started DCL looked whacked found out now he had a late fitness test - it showed he was done for from the whistle!

We aren't going to outplay anyone with this set of players are we?
We should be outplaying everyone who is below us in the league as we have far better players! Parking the bus should only be for away games against the likes of city Utd Chelsea. He worries about the opposition too much rather than imposing ourselves in games, but that’s the Allardyce way always has been and always will be, we was outplayed by Swansea at home for large parts of the first half. That shouldn’t be happening.

Worst team in our History, errrm no mate it is far from that, unless you think our history started about 10-15 years ago.

As you quoted form though, we beat Huddersfield and Newcastle who where 19th and 20th in form when we played them, beat Swansea who where 19th when we played them, and where very fortunate in those games with pens and them hitting the bar/post etc, held on for dear life at home against Chelsea without having a shot on target all game, and scraped a very fortunate draw against the rs (something we've managed 4 out the last 7 away games at the pit - so hardly earth shaking result wise) topped off by a backs to the wall all out defending game against West Brom - a team without a win in 18 and the worst form team in the league.

The day unrealistic expectations include expecting us to be able to beat west brom and Newcastle away and swansea and Huddersfield at home and expecting a little more than all out defending with no desire to try win a game at home and in a Derby is the day the fan base is well and truly f'cked forever

Best Everton post of 2017 this.

If we finish top half, there is no way he'll be sacked. Moshiri is only marginally less conservative than Kenwright in that respect.

Surely he is entitled to be judged on the same basis as his predecessors - on results.

It makes absolutely no sense for him to be given any money in January on the basis he'll be gone in May, we can coast the rest of the season with no new additions and still finish top half, provided no bad luck with injuries.

I presume the club have indeed sounded out lots for the job, but that's the easy part and big salary or not, we are not half the attractive proposition as some like to believe we are.

Allardyce certainly has an upper limit but jettisoning him for a Silva or Fonseca would carry inherent risks, and I'm not seeing any bigger names taking the job.

I'm not enjoying the football but things are infinitely better than watching us take humiliating beatings from the likes of Soton.
