At the end of the day, I'd take an ugly win over a beautiful loss

Of course I'd like us to win beautifully (Who wouldn't?) but when it comes down to brass tacks the most important thing is the win, and barring that a draw at the very least

We're supporters. We go to support. Entertainment is a welcomed but not guaranteed by-product of that support

Said it before but winning 1-0 is no less "entertaining" than winning 4-3. I don't consider opposition goals flying in against us entertainment. Of course, the ultimate entertainment would be to be City and beating everyone by 3, 4 and 5 goal margins, but unfortunately we are 2017 Everton so people need to get real.

Lots of teams have been successful by playing defensive football

Just look at Mourinho

Yes, he doesn't play the long ball as much, but then again he's always had a far more impressive collection of players to work with

Allardyce's Bolton side played some good stuff because he had the players to pull it off. Can you imagine if we had an in his prime Okocha right now?

All Allardyce is doing is trying to get the best out of a middling bunch of players

The issue is the ingredients, not the cook. We have an, at best, 10th-7th squad, and he's simply getting them to par. Koeman this season and Martinez towards the end were failing to match that par, which is why they got canned

The way Allardyce is best able to get us to that par at the moment is by playing defensively. It's just the way it is

Leicester used the HOOF to win the title, but they had Vardy, Mahrez and (most importantly) Kante. We don't have three players of that calibre, which is why we aren't troubling the top sides. It's not the tactics why we're in the middle of the pack
Exactly. Every presser he gives he highlights the fact we need to be better in possessions and better going forward but still people believe this is the way his whole tenure is going to be. I think the fact he wants Nzonzi shows he wants us to drive forward from midfield when we get the chance. Always a time in games to go long which I don't mind if it gets you up the pitch and keeps us solid.

So we are saying we have to stop teams creating chances as well as scoring, don't ask for much do you

Posts like this emphasise the rubbish some of our fans spout.

Relegation or big Sam
Long ball or lose
Don’t score or don’t concede

It’s not a case of one or the other, it is possible to actually score goals whilst remain compact.

I think it's easier for me to take as well because I really don't think he'll be here next season

If he'd signed something like a four year deal then I might view it differently, but the way I see it he's here to stop the rot, keep us up and then be on his merry way with a handsome pay off at Moshiri's generous expense

An ideal situation? No

A necessary one considering we were dropping like a stone with no signs of recovery? Sadly, I think yes

Moshiri made a balls up with Koeman, and he's cost us a wedge by letting things get so bad that we had to press the "Big Sam" button to rectify things. His next managerial appointment needs to be spot on. Over to you Farhad. Meanwhile, we just need to grit our teeth and get through this season. As I've previously mentioned, hopefully Allardyce can claim at least one big scalp before he hits the road, preferably Arsenal at the Emirates, Liverpool or United on NYD

With the current squad make up its not quite so easy. Hence why Koeman couldn't do it and why we are struggling to score under Allardyce to an extent. Thankfully though Allardyce has managed to fix one of the problems and fixing the issues at the other end really cant be judged until he is in a position to do so (ie January).

Spot on. He's clearly not here for the long term. It looks very much like he'll part company having done his job: keep this basket case team in the Premier League and comfortably. I can be grateful for that, there's a parallel universe somewhere where Marco Silva took over this team in November and had us playing pretty triangles all the way into the Championship, forever altering the course of the club's future.

Or to have a game plan that allows for the system to be changed during the game, if and when the opportunity / need arises.

Rather than park the bus, take the wheels off and hoooooooooooooooooooooooof.

You think that Allardyce given the chance could have outwitted and eventually outplayed Barcelona as Mourinho did with Inter and then Madrid? You think Allardyce could have taken a mediocre Portuguese outfit like Porto and won two European trophies with them?
Who knows different leagues, worlds apart. .....but say both Allardyce and Mourinho were given the same budget and told to build a team from scratch...could you say hand on heart Mourinho would come out on top? I hate the way we are playing but I'm a damn sight happier than I was a few weeks ago.

It'd be far easier for Mourinho to do what Allardyce does than vice versa.

I really do think some people on here are under stating just how bad things were before Allardyce came in

Relegation was a very real possibility. I personally won't be happy until we hit 40 points even now

The team was defensively fragile and there seemed no way of turning it around

Allardyce has gone back to basics and it's worked results wise

This undefeated run isn't going to last forever, but it came at a critical time

Those saying "We should have waited till February/March to get an Allardyce style manager" are way off in my estimation. Who knows how far gone we would have been by then if we'd've waited? Chances are that by March we would have been past the point of salvation, to where even a specialist couldn't get us out

I wasn't exactly thrilled with the appointment, and have been vocal that I would have rather we'd gone for Sean Dyche, but Allardyce coming in when he did was miles better than if we'd waited till the closing two months of the season. Bringing him in now has given him a chance to put this little run together. Even if our form dips now we still have considerable wiggle room that we wouldn't have had if we'd waited. We've got 18 games to amass 13 points. It's better than needing a similar amount of points in 8 games, which is where we could have been if we'd waited till March

Do you trust this squad of players to have responded to that level of pressure? Because I certainly don't

With this squad? Wrong again my man.

We’ll never know because any pace or flair has been well and truly binned for the workman like approach and good old hoofing it.

Hopefully we’ll show Bournemouth the same amount of respect as we should West Brom and sit nice and deep. Screw that they’re as open as whores minge, we’ll absorb and hopefully sneak a point

“Get in there Yannick lad, you’re a bit fast. Chase these into the corner”

Already happened under Koeman, but ok this is football.
