Hopefully he will get the best out of this god awful defence before a bit of an overhaul in the summer. Williams was actually good today. Still think Holgate is shakey though.

Holgate wasn’t great first half, made a hash of a few clearances but sorted it out second half.

This might be some sort of post-win/pre-derby euphoria talking, or perhaps me trying to cope with the man at the very bottom of my manager list now being in charge of the club. But here me out. From what I've seen so far, Allardyce genuinely looks made up to be here, now the cynics will say that's because he's secured himself a last big payday, but I have to disagree. England aside, he's never had a big job, now whether that's for a reason or because no one would give him the chance is neither here nor there. The fact is he's now in the final few years of his career as a manager, and had now got the job at the biggest job he could ever have realistically hoped to get. And as such he's brought in Lee and Shakespeare, two very, very highly regarded coaches in with him and looks intent on really making it work here at Everton.

I'm by no means a fan, but I think in Allardyce we've genuinely got someone who really cares and will give his all to be a success at Everton.
He said this in his post match interview. If he’s not successful here, it won’t be for the want of trying. He made a very good point about our injuries (9 our injured, I didn’t realise it was that many). Due to our ‘dead’ match on Thursday, I can see him having picking virtually an entire different 11 to the one selected today. Every player will get the opportunity to impress and it will be good for him to see the entire squad in a competitive game.

I think alladyce has already had a positive effect on Williams.
Williams is actaully a good defender of the mistakes are ironed out, he tackles hard and physically strong and great in the air.
He's very limited though and that needs to be taken into account.

Hopefully he's a pragmatist and he doesn't change a method if it isn't dysfunctional. He can see in the last two games that we can play football and it gets results. He's best just adding another string to our bow, which is what we've been asking previous managers to do with a Plan B that involves an option to go route one....an option.
