I'm sceptical that this will be the case, as how would such a deal be structured?

If it was a break clause, as mentioned, doesn't that mean the contract is ended by mutual consent, therefore there could be no resale value as he'd effectively be a free transfer.

If it was a sell on to athletico, we would have to agree the fee now, so if we've agreed it would be highly profitable for us.

I would take this report off some Twitter random with a pinch of salt.
