He had two years left. Signed an extension last year
Ah ok. I saw he had signed a two year extension but didn’t take into account he had a year left too which makes it 3.

Guess they think they can do something better with the money and no one else is going to offer anything like that given his age. Can’t think of any clubs in Europe that would want him at that price even if it does seem relatively cheap.

Nor the wages most likely.

I'm surprised seeing as it's a Saudi club MC didn't try and squeeze more of a transfer fee out of them.

Apparently targeting Raphinha to replace him who would be more than double the price but a similar profile and younger.

Not wanting to turn this into a City thread but will also be interesting to see what happens with Bernardo. Interest from Saudi, PSG and Barcelona apparently. Doubt Barcelona would be able to afford him though. But if they lose Mahrez and Bernardo they definitely need to do some work on their right side.

They still have Foden but I agree, they will definitely need another player or two.

Correct. I will predict that Saudi will end up acquiring / dominating FIFA and there will be a franchised World Super League with 2 ‘east’ & ‘west’ conferences style set up. European teams will be blended between the two conferences. So will Saudi PIFs 4 teams. UEFA champions league & EPL will both be dead within 5 years in their current format.
Well, if that happens that will be it for myself and football I think. Franchise sports are not real sports as there are no consequences to losing. Money rules the world though unfortunately so yes, football will become much like the NFL, and I'm sure the younger generation will get used to it and love it. Definitely not for me though.

I’m with you 100%. The reality is tho that the US & Arab money that owns and operates football has no pedigree or tradition in the sport. They understand how to turn sport into generating money from tv revenue, sponsorship & advertising. admittedly they do it very well. A lot of experience living and working in both these parts of the world - they both understand acquiring and building brands. But it’s all they care about. Rightly or wrongly.

Good.

Watch the "top" club's become hollow plastic entities playing for the "global" audience shutting out the "legacy" fan.
