Thanks for sharing, interesting read. I think people are sometimes to quick to dismiss Scottish players because of the general poor opinion of our league. When this subject is discussed, I often think back to Paul Lambert's situation. A decent but forgettable player for Motherwell. His contract came to an end at Motherwell and it didn't look like too many teams were interested initially, along comes Borrusia Dortmund to sign him. He goes on to be an important first team player and wins the CL with them. They obviously saw something in him that others didn't.
Yeah that's a good example - Lambert was a transformed player during and after his time at Dortmund. Another one is Brian O'Neil, a very ordinary player who went on to do well at Wolfsburg. And although he was already a very decent player, I thought Murdo MacLeod also really improved once he went to Dortmund.

Fantastic name also. Murdo.

Bit of a tit though. But great name.

Interesting comment from a scout in an Athletic article

"What is the general opinion about buying from Scotland?

Premier League scout 1:
It (rude word removed)'s me off a little bit because I think we don’t pay enough attention to the Scottish Premiership. There’s some excellent players in there waiting for a chance elsewhere but the reality is they won’t always get it.

It’s hard to convince managers and sporting directors that they (signings from Scotland) are going to make a Premier League team better. Also, when Sir Alex Ferguson was around, there were a lot more Scottish people involved in the English game. People always had knowledge. There’s not as many now.

Clubs were afraid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Celtic for a long time, remember. Many weren’t quite sure, because the Scottish league is known to be aggressive and played at a high tempo but with little ability. It’s not the case."

And no, it wasn't me!

Another said;

"If you can handle the ball in Scotland, England will be a breeze. Very few Scots go to England and fail.

We watch individuals, and you see qualities and imagine them (playing) with better players. So the standard of the league is nothing to worry about. If you play outside of the Old Firm and can go to Ibrox and Parkhead and perform, you will be OK in England."

Athletic is decent read actually. Better than most of the other junk you read in the press
Find a good player and you’ll get him cheap. The RS have been tracking Calvin Ramsay , Aberdeen’s 18 year old right back for a while and doing what the RS do well , playing hard ball , making low offers. Aberdeen have been excited and “ holding out” for a record payment, it’s currently £3 mill , McKenna to Forest . They were blustering about £10 mill , looks like they’ve caved in and accepted £4.5 mill , which they’ll call a triumph as it’s “ smashed “ their record , and no doubt there’ll be a” rising to £10mill “ mentioned somewhere , omitting that he likely needs to win 3 CLs to achieve it.

Oh aye, totally forgot about Brian O'Neil. You're right about Lambert transforming. From a respectable but forgettable Scottish player from a mid-table SPL team to the flippin' midfield linchpin for the European champions. Unreal when you think about it.

Jack Ross seems to start well at clubs, then fades just when things are looking good, supporters of the clubs he's managed are .ore informed to comment on him but that's how I see him as an outsider, he certainly splits opinion.IMO.
But why did the Arabs get rid when they've done reasonably well this season.
Is Courts destined for bigger things elsewhere?
Seems a bit of a weird one, especially after one season where he was quite successful.

Hungary doesn't seem to be a natural location for a career progression move, maybe he has family ties or something?

Was ok that.

I'll need to check that out.

I believe there's a documentary on Amazon about the Rangers team that won the Cup Winners Cup in 1972. That should be worth a watch. Will you be watching that too, Dave? ?

It's purple, same as every other year ?‍♂️

Admittedly, I really don't get the fuss around shirts as a fashion item. Utd wear orange, rangers wear blue, hearts wear purple. As long as they all stick with that, I'm happy ?
I think the colour you are looking for there is “maroon”, not “purple”. ?
