Disgusting flag but to condemn a fan base on a tweet praising them is scraping the barrel, in my neutral (ish) opinion.

Clearly, you don't know TRIFC fans.

In fairness to them, they did seem to back the players taking the knee quite well but Bartley was talking about TRIFC fans, 100%. There have been a few tweets from the newco supporters complaining about their players taking the knee.

Meanwhile the goon brigade in Edinburgh!!

Obviously I have no idea what happened before these clips, but n the first video all I can see Hearts fans attacking Celtic fans and, for some reason, police pepper spraying the Celtic fans.

Tynecastle is a horrible place to go for Celtic supporters. Our fans are attacked every single time the team play there.

I will qualify that part.

When I was a kid in the 90's I followed Rangers, my best mate was a Rangers fan so watched a lot of games and they had a great side back then.

I certainly don't support them and as such could not give too many craps about the fan base in general. On the pitch I will want them to win, so the 'ish' part is that I may be on their side a bit more off the pitch.

My general thoughts are, however, that both of the old firm clubs have a subset of fans that are just as bad as each other. For me, their is no distinguishing between their views and the way they put them across.

On this occasion they were applauded so using it as a negative highlights the sometimes pathetic back and forth that goes on this thread, although it is sometimes funny it is also sometimes a tad pathetic.

Yeah, a few people who really don't know what they're talking about say that.

Every team, no matter how small, will have some arts holes following the club, but in my lifetime Rangers fans have rioted their way through Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester (X2) Barcelona, and now Glasgow city centre.

Their fans have attacked Celtic players on the pitch at Hampden as they did a lap of honour, after Rangers lost a cup final, and they have ran on to the Hampden pitch and attacked celebrating fans twice after Rangers... Well I think you can probably guess the rest.

Their supporters have been involved in trouble in a few other places, but we're talking riots here. I can't think of any club who have come remotely close to the behaviour of Rangers, and TRIFC, fans.

Hearts are a disgusting club and very definitey part of the axis of evil. I remember reading a book about the early game in Edinburgh and how they did all they could to deny Hibernian space to operate and survive on sectarian grounds.

Utter 'kin rotters.

They have a section off fans and who are horrible, bigoted, scum, yet people on the East Coast of Scotland claim sectarianism is a West Coast problem.

Another set of fans who love Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon...

I've watched Hibs and Hearts for nearly 60 years and thought I knew the history of Edinburgh football. I don't recall Hearts having mistreated Hibs in the early years.
Rather it was Celtic who attempted to put Hibs out of business by pinching all their players in 1893 or summat!

Eh?

I accept Celtic poached some of the Hibs players, but attempted to put them out of business? What the Fleck?

Maybe you're confused with the Hibs chairman trying to get Celtic Park closed for Celtic committing the heinous crime of flying the Irish tricolour, which I believe had been gifted to the club by the Irish Taoiseach.

In fairness Neill Lennon was on the receiving end of hassle, from certain elements of the Celtic support recently. Proof indeed that in Glasgow, you're only as good as your last game. In Glasgow even club legends can get thrown to the wolves. As i say a brutal environment to operate in. Imagine what a culture shock this is, to the new manager Celtic brought in from the other side of the planet.

What hassle was this, Corky?

Perhaps you're confusing this with Neil Lennon being attacked in the streets, at least twice, by Rangers supporters, or having his family moved to a safe house after he received what police believed to be credible threats to his safety from, iirc, Loyalist paramilitaries?

It's possible you're thinking about the time he was sent bullets through the post, and that one time he was sent a bomb (A FLECKING BOMB!!!) in the post.

I was happy to see a Scottish football thread on our Everton forum but unfortunately it seems the ugly sectarian side of the game up there gets brought up time and time again.
Thanks Preki for posting the photo of Raith Rovers ground that must’ve been some game, that’s what I was hoping for on a Scottish football thread.
So I’m going the leave you all alone to get on with it and I’ll look forward to getting back in my seat for the Southampton game.
Have a good one?

Lack of leadership in that Celtic team.
Mcgregor not the answer.

Yep, we're definitely a soft touch.

Our players never complain to the ref. Celtic had a good goal ruled out last night, though I accept it was very tight. Also Halliday should have been given a straight red card for his shocking foul on McGregor. Incredibly, Halliday wasnt even given a yellow card for it! None of our players complained to the ref about this. I wonder do they just not give a Fleck, or have they been instructed not to harass officials?

I hope Ange turns out to be a good manager, but I'm always wary of managers who have their philosophies, or ones who visit the Barcelona, or Ajax, training grounds then decide that's how their players will play, even though he's the East Stirlingshire manager...

I've read on a Celtic forum that Ange like his keepers to play out from the back, that would rule out Celtic ever signing Forster while he's in charge. When your intransigence means you refuse to sign a keeper who is the best I've seen play for Celtic since the late 60's, maybe it's time to take stock of your philosophies?

Brian, Scotland is a very sectarian country. Unfortunately, it goes with the territory.

Things are a lot better nowadays than they used to be, when the Irish diaspora were blatantly denied opportunities because of their religion, but if you scratch the surface of a lot of people in Scotland, anti-Irish, and anti-Catholic, bile will seep out.

Question is why were they there in the first place when they don't have tickets to get in to Tynecastle as it's home fans only at the moment?
But you crack on with your unbalanced propaganda anyway!!

I can't speak for those fans personally, but maybe they wanted to stand outside the stadium and shout their support, like TRIFC fans did in Perth a few months ago when no fans were allowed inside the ground, or is pointing out your insane double standards "unbalanced propaganda"? :)

Going to be a difficult 3 point gap for Celtic to close already

If it were Pedro Caixinha' s TRIFC, there might still be cause for optimism, but the current TRIFC side are a solid team who don't lose goals easily very often, so I can't seem much cause for optimism at the moment.

Even if our board are prepared to spend money on players, and that's a big if, I have no confidence that we wont spunk the money on even more overpaid, underachieving, duds.
