I wish there was a St Johnstone supporter here to bang the drum, for such a diddy team to come away with the 2 cups on offer up here far outweighed any other achievement by the supposed bigger clubs last year by a long chalk.
I've been to Muirton.
That's it.
Aberdeen paid for a segregation fence so more away fans could attend for a cup match.
All st Johnstone, then the Don's nicked a winner.

I was only ever there once myself, the highlight of the match was during a perfect ly observed minute's silence before the game a plain clothes police officer's radio went off in his pocket, his face was a picture and everyone just laughed as he beat a hasty retreat.

Thank you WA but I can’t be done with the nonsense and it does seem to get dominated by the old firm. Maybe they could have one of their own ?, god help us.
I would really like to continue on the Scottish football thread though.
One of the things I’d like to do one day is get a camper van and go on a tour of the highland league. That would be great.

My old man was a life long Hearts supporter. Lucky enough to see Alex Young in a maroon jersey. His favourite all time player though was Dave Mackay.
In the past I’ve seen Queens Park home and away and had a few visits to Annan. Great wee clubhouse.
When Lesser Hampden is finished and QPFC are there I’m planning to make a trip back north.
I managed to see them at Hampden before they left and I was treated brilliantly.
Sounds like a great trip, hope you manage to pull it off.
Don't mind hearts, used to enjoy watching them back in the late 80s - early 90s. Dundee uts is the team for me though.

There are 2 or 3 in here that just can't avoid posting about how the other teams fans are worse (should take you about 2 minutes to identify them) - honestly, chuck them on ignore and the rest of the thread is actually quite good.

And clearly Brian is one of them! :)

Early 60s my dad and I went to Tynecastle and Easter Road alternately whoever was at home. Lots of fathers and kids did that then. We would see the same faces each week standing in the same places on the terraces.

A match was an event. And we'd see world class players for pennies - Jimmy Johnstone, Jim Baxter. Gordon Smith was still playing for Dundee, champions in 1962.

Hearts had a silver band marching round the pitch before the game and at half-time. Hibs by contrast had a crackly tannoy playing top ten hits.

That is one of the most ill-informed comments I’ve ever read on a forum.

Hearts actually got in trouble because they insisted on the right to play Hibs, even though at the time, Hibs weren’t recognised by the SFA as being a Scottish team. Hearts were very seen as an ally to Hibs over this matter.

This is poor history. I'll dig out the info later and put it on here. But Hibs were frozen out (and violently kept out on occasion) by football teams and their fans and the Edinburgh football establishment - INCLUDING Hearts.

[22nd September 1877 - 1st round of the Scottish Cup, Hibs v Hearts]

And I quote:

"Hibernian registered an historic win by two goals to one in front of a large crowd at East Meadows. The Hearts fans and players were furious at this cup defeat at the hands of the 'inferior' Irish and fighting broke out. Relations between the two clubs had never been very good but now things were badly soured for years to come and Hearts never missed an opportunity to attack Hibernian in the committee room of the Edinburgh FA, with a view to having them thrown out of the Association".

- Alan Lugton, The Making of Hibernian, vol1, p.32.

You: "Hearts actually got in trouble because they insisted on the right to play Hibs...Hearts were very seen as an ally to Hibs over this matter."

Dont try and teach your grandmother how to suck eggs.
