Never been to Easter Road.
But tyncastle..what an atmosphere, that old stand was rocking when they scored.
There was a better atmosphere at Hearts in those days. It was a more enclosed terrace and the ground was ringed by tenements and factories. You felt like you were in the local community.
Hibs had a grandstand only. The rest was open to the elements including a terrace that seemed to reach the sky. It was all a bit bleak.

Early 60s my dad and I went to Tynecastle and Easter Road alternately whoever was at home. Lots of fathers and kids did that then. We would see the same faces each week standing in the same places on the terraces.

A match was an event. And we'd see world class players for pennies - Jimmy Johnstone, Jim Baxter. Gordon Smith was still playing for Dundee, champions in 1962.

Hearts had a silver band marching round the pitch before the game and at half-time. Hibs by contrast had a crackly tannoy playing top ten hits.
Both Edinburgh clubs are massive sleeping giants imo. For whatever reason though, neither have been able to compete with Rangers and Celtic.

Just a question of numbers really. The Old Firm, from a bigger city with stadiums twice as large and more money coming in were consequently more successful.

They always had the pick of the talent in Scotland.

Been to both the grounds old and new, the old Tynecasle was a bleak place on a cold and windy day.

[22nd September 1877 - 1st round of the Scottish Cup, Hibs v Hearts]

And I quote:

"Hibernian registered an historic win by two goals to one in front of a large crowd at East Meadows. The Hearts fans and players were furious at this cup defeat at the hands of the 'inferior' Irish and fighting broke out. Relations between the two clubs had never been very good but now things were badly soured for years to come and Hearts never missed an opportunity to attack Hibernian in the committee room of the Edinburgh FA, with a view to having them thrown out of the Association".

- Alan Lugton, The Making of Hibernian, vol1, p.32.

You: "Hearts actually got in trouble because they insisted on the right to play Hibs...Hearts were very seen as an ally to Hibs over this matter."

Dont try and teach your grandmother how to suck eggs.

And there you have it, Scotland in a nutshell. But hey it's only a West Coast problem, right?

I know Celtic poached some of the Hibs players when our club (or is it the company that operates the club?) was starting out, but how, itnof, could the Hibs fans allow their chairman to try and close down Celtic Park because they had the Irish tricolour on a flagpole? I can't get my head around that one.

That is one of the most ill-informed comments I’ve ever read on a forum.

Hearts actually got in trouble because they insisted on the right to play Hibs, even though at the time, Hibs weren’t recognised by the SFA as being a Scottish team. Hearts were very seen as an ally to Hibs over this matter.
Hello mate, why don't you introduce yourself? Post loads.

The question has to be "why"?

I believe our board are old, and have run the club not too badly in a financial sense, but they don't make great footballing decisions, apart from Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers didn't splash a lot of cash on players, but he showed a good coach can have the team playing in a set up that gets the best out of the players.

The plucky newco seem to have that now, while Celtic just go from one shambles to the next.
