To answer your question, mate, yes, it's 90% about hatred. It's almost universally accepted that he's far past his best and should have been replaced long since (I'm happy to be convinced otherwise by performances, though), but a huge proportion of the anti-Coleman posts don't say that. There's all sorts of personal vitriol and poisonous comments aimed at him, which are utterly unjustified given the fact he's always done, and continues to do, his best, even though that best has diminished substantially. There's something well beyond simple opinion and rational player critique at work here, in my view.
He put his head where most would not put their boot. A right back!!!

He is an absolute Everton legend. The hatred on here for him has dark sources.

No I get that, and I don't think it's entirely unfair.

But what I would say is: he's a player, he's part of the squad like everyone else. And we've all seen how being part of a dysfunctional team that just cannot make things work affects all of the playing staff. And yeah, the ideal captain is a player who can rise above that, who can bring their A-game to every match, no matter what's going on. But those players are incredibly rare, and I don't think we've had one in my lifetime (since '92). Certainly not since I've been properly cognisant of the game.

I guess what I mean is this: Coleman is not a great captain, but he is both a great servant and a genuine fan of the club. I reckon the lad would love to have been able to hand the captaincy to someone else during the often miserable period in which he's had it – but there is nobody else. And that really is the true meaning of responsibility. He's taken it on because he had to. God love him for it – I know I do.

Yeah fair points and if somehow he lifted a trophy with us before retiring id be over the moon

Just cant shake the feeling that he has been part of various squads that at times have downed tools on managers, and i dont like that at all. Pure personal opinion that though from watching some of our crap runs of games though, and not one id come easily to given for much of his time at the club i wouldve said he was my favourite player
