2021/22 Seamus Coleman

The 6 points we got against Leeds and Newcastle will be invaluable in keeping us up. They were built on the two Coleman passages of play when he scored the crucial opener against Leeds and set the tone for the rest of the game, and last night lighting the blue touch paper with that ripping of the ball away from them and setting up DCL/Iwobi. Two attacking phases.

So if his defensive frailities are on show as he reaches his mid-30s he still has a job to do here. It wasn't his fault that in January the club failed to get a good to go RB replacement.

This feller is an absolute gem...if that galloot is called a legend then so is Coleman. Easy.

Respect what he's done for this club, and respect what he continues to do.

Because Irish people seem to go OTT on here whenever he plays okay. Don’t see English people doing the same for Michael Keane do ya.
What? I'm Irish and I have been calling for Seamus's public execution for four years now. There's another Irish chap, @PhoenixIreland, I believe, who is similar. He just wanted to douse him in flames and throw a match.

Seamus is an utter has-been now - but that tackle last night was a glimpse of what he once was. It's desperately sad that the complete mismanagement of this club has led to the farcical situation that he was given a new contract extension last summer and we spent 30 million in the Winter window failing to replace him.

Iwobi - who really isn't up to it at anything approaching a consistent level - had a moment of inspiration last night, but that's not pulling the wool over anybody with eyes either. Like Seamus, every dog has his day. But it was a wonderful goal, a determined tackle of intent, a strong run by Iwobi, the most stylish thing DCL has come up with since his Britney Spears outfit on Instagram, and a lovely composed finish. A great goal. But two of those three players are simply not the standard required over the course of a full season. One was but not longer is. One never will be.

So no green-tinted glasses here.

There's an absolute weapon behind me in the Gwladys that spends the whole match ripping on Coleman for not talking to the ref enough

He's the captain of Everton, it doesn't matter what he says to the ref they aren't going to listen to him
The only captain refs listen to is the England one

He was great last night, as were the entire team maybe aside from gray, who is still coming back from the injury, but like the rest of them, Seamus hasn't been so good this season.

You have to give him credit for continuing to turn out and do his best, he never shirks or gives less than 100%, but no one can say that he's not the player he once was, and hasn't been for some time, and it's a damning indictment of everything of that is wrong at the club that we are having to continually rely and select him at this stage of his career.

Hopefully now we can string a few results together, so we can start to integrate Patterson into the side before that end of the season.

That's why Lampard sticks with him and why all talk of him being finished is complete bollocks.

Dave … we literally have no body to take his place .. JJK is crap and also having to play LB, holgate can’t because he’s playing CB, Patterson by your on admission is dog turd … we literally have no other options … iwobi? Godfrey?

We all now that the big 6 and 'high profile' managers & players have a big influence on referees. One of the few good things about Rooney's return (it would have worked so much better in a different team environment & maybe coincided with Frank Lampard) was that he seemed to talk to the refs more, for what it's worth. Frank Lampard is super confident and experienced and I liked how he is clear and strong on the ref's performance in his post match interviews, and he won't hesitate to talk to the refs and the assistants on the side.

Spot on there mate, good post.

And none of that is down to him. He gives his all week in and week out, and in two games in the last month his efforts have proven the difference for us.

I'll say it again: if that Galloot Ferguson is considered a legend by a lot of Evertonians, Coleman is most definitley a legend.

...and let me tell you about Ferguson - in our relegation threatened season of 97/98 he went missing...he was a no show for that fight - one he didn't have the stomach for. He continually got himself suspended and at times left us with 10 men to fight for our lives.

If anyone wants to call him a legend and fail to hand it to Coleman...or worse...actually abuse Coleman in his twilight years for the club....they need to have a massive 'kin word with themselves. Coleman will NEVER duck out of this fight and NEVER shirk his responsibilities to us.

Treasure this feller, because we wont get value and loyalty from a player like this too many times again.

It is not about him being Irish. It is about the love and passion he has for this Club.

Dean, Lawton, Labone, Ball Royle, Kendall and so many other English players were giants.

Yes I have Peter Farrell in my avatar because I had the privilege of knowing him, going to see Rovers with him, and he bled blue and green until he died.

My late father loved Both Peter Farrell and Tommy Eglinton. Part of it may have been because of our Irish heritage but mostly because they like Seamus never gave less than 110%.

Think about the Scots, Gabriel, Young and Scott, and the Welshman Vernon.

Ratcliffe, Southall, Collins, Gray, Sharp we could go on all night.

I just want to be clear that this is not an Ireland v England issue. I love our Club heritage.

I just despise personal abuse of any person. To do this to an Everton player is horrible. No names but I love everything about this Club.

Criticism is fine when deserved. Support is much more important.

Well said @Bluerover, we are all about this club.
I am of Hungarian origin and have no allegiance to any Nationality. What I do have is a complete understanding of EVERY player in the Royal Blue jersey and assess their strengths and weaknesses. Those who, should we say, are less suited to this team, I will still shout and encourage for. Those who put the extra mile in and show their true value will receive my undying admiration.
All players listed in previous posts were all such players.

AMEN!
