Be a great day when he leaves as his mistakes cost us points and points keep us earning money. Needs replacing and I can't wait to see he back of his stupid cut backs when he can float a ball in the box. Personal level he seems like a top bloke but businesses hire for you ability and productivity... enough said.
You can easily say that about all the current outfield players in this squad.

I agree. However this is a Coleman thread and I think he's been so crap for years and that's both his and the club's fault. My hope is he never plays again for us as he can't cut it at this level. Unfortunately it's Everton and he's probably about to get a 5 year deal and told he's not to be replaced haha

….when posters on here have criticised his role as captain, I have often posted that fans don’t really know a captains worth. Captains don’t have to kick opponents up in the air, shout at teammates and get down a referees ear. Labone didn’t, Ratcliffe didn’t and they were the most successful we had.
I agree except Coleman hasn't won a jot to earn that comparison, and not his fault but this season we maybe needed more of a captain that you have just described. If we were up challenging for things, his type of captaincy may be brilliant but last season we needed vocal leaders who were doing as you said.

I do like him, but he is limited as a player nowadays and our right is targeted regularly by opposition teams.

His fault he got destroyed by a welsh orc, who gave him a double leg break.??? What a ridiculous statement.

The problem isn't that - the problem is that he never improved his technique, in 10 years.

When your main and only positive are pace and will, when one of these is gone...
Firstly, that he has been first choice right back for a Premier league team for so long laughs in the face of the not good enough criticism he gets.

Secondly, no one is arguing he is the future or the way forward. A cracking player and injury and Father Time are doing as they do.

I don't criticise his role as a captain - he's definitely a top lad and a top Blue - I criticise his role as a perennially limited footballer who is, on top of his limitations, now aging and should be a backup at best, really, as he's costing us more points than winning them.

Also they don't have to, but it'd be nice to stop being the good guys for about 3 seconds - imagine the team's captain getting poked and pushed in the face in the Derby, which would lead to our advantage should he actually do anything about it, but... he doesn't and just goes "oh no it's okay these things happen". Nah mate, not having that.

James (Rodriguez, not Tarkowski... yet) did it brilliantly by getting someone sent off for the smallest poke in a nothing game - imagine having an advantage against the RS for a change, instead of the exact opposite. Because that's what everyone in the league, quite literally everyone, does, but we're "the good guys™" so it's against the rules if we do it.

When Gomes got snapped by Son...he was the first to make sure he was ok, sat with him with an arm around the shoulder comforting him*

Argues with the referee about 2 decisions a season. Seemed to have delegated that responsibility to Townsend.

*the opposition player. Not his teammate who was the victim of a dirty attack coming from anger and frustration. Just leaving Gomes on the deck like that and not only consoling Son but talking to him after the game to make sure he was ok??

Im amazed any of our players werent shocked and dismayed seeing that.

If that was me being fouled like that in my youth and my captain acted in that way id have wanted to smash his face in.

Zero respect for this faux captain.

Phil Neville, Tom Cleverley, Tony Hibbert, etc. - brilliant long careers. Horribly average (AT BEST) footballers.

Longevity doesn't mean skill.

His crossing has been abysmal his entire career - blind cutback or blind cross in; he barely gets his head up. Many overhit crosses, to the point he's got a worse cross% than Baines, who's played about 100 games more and put in about 3x of crosses lol Not that he doesn't hit the occasional one, but honestly it's either a "decent cross" sometimes or mostly "out for a touch", no inbetween.

Passing has never been great, neither long nor short.

He overcompensated with spirit and pace. Pace is no longer there because it's how time works, so what do we have? He doesn't even point like Phil FFS!

And this is the point I am making. He has been deservedly picked, and made captain, by several managers due to his strengths and leadership and now he will fulfil the role of a back up. ‘Tis the circle of football life.

But he's not doing that, he's playing as a starter and costing games. Surely a leader would make a point to stop this from happening, especially after seeing Shane Long jump well over him to score an easy header?

So to summarise, you don’t like him and want to smash his face in.
