Will be a sad day if he does retire in May, but he deserves to go out on his own terms.

Not sure if he has been doing his coaching qualifications etc, but have no issue with him joining the staff in some capacity. Coleman and Baines are two of the best we could have working with young players at the club.

Be 35 next Oct, tbf hes earned it.

Leaves the club with a hole to fill though and a cost, we have got away with for years because of his exceptional value.

14 years service for 60k. Incredible value.

Wouldn't be surprised if the club try to twist his arm for another year.

If he does go i think we need two new full backs each side next window.

Things can change quickly for a player in mid 30s, but he's still offering enough to get a new contract. You need 2 good players in every position to have a good season.

But as I said, completely his call when he wants to call it a day.

He for sure isnt able for 38 games, but as we saw on Sat, hes still well capable of having Zaha's and Eze's of this world in his pocket, a couple of weeks before he was dealing with Son and Persic. He doesn't have the engine for the lung busting runs up the field all the time anymore, but still capable of support play.

It will be up to him, i think hes very grounded lad, in fact hes hugely intelligent, and i can see him transitioning away from playing quite easily in a personal sense, though i think after a break he will go into coaching. What would keep him here is the worry replacing him will have on the club, thats just the way hes built, he loves Everton and i mean loves Everton top to bottom and hes very aware of the clubs welfare away from on the pitch matters - thats why i think his arm could be twisted.

and a very crap captain when it comes to captaining on the pitch, but that's a whole different ball game. Again, not the "calling up Tarks to tell him how it is", the "he hides from this responsibility on the field instead of being in the ref's ear for everything like EVERY CAPTAIN IN FOOTBALL".

I agree, to differing extents, with most of that post. He definitely deserves the fullest praise for his service to the club and the team.

However, the bit I left above I completely disagree with. The reason being that some people have issues with how every Everton captain acts. Not every captain is screaming in the refs ear every time a foul is given against. I don't like it and it should not be the norm, I see Coleman being there when a controversial foul has been given, he is not in the ref's face but asking questions, in the right way. This does not mean he is not leading, if anything he is showing kids who look at him the right way to go about it.

Some fans have this obsession with captains needing to be screaming in the refs face all the time. As said, I see him in the frame of the picture talking to the ref, when he feels it is needed. If we want refs to improve then player behaviour needs to improve and for me Coleman always looks for the respectful way to complain/discuss some situations with the ref.

That for me is being an excellent captain. Plus, I will add, we have a few 'captains' on the pitch. A football captain doesn't need to be the focal point, if there are other strong personalities/leaders on the pitch. It is not like Rugby or Cricket, as examples, where a captain is pivotal in some or all of the scenarios that can happen during the course of a game.

The football world didn't exist before the premier league. Its similar to God, cos apparently God didn't exist before Christians and Muslims came along.
