We absolutely could have said that. He could've told us where to go, of course, and they we could've said thanks for your service best of luck with the rest of your career. We've got to stop acting like a charity to a select group of players. I wouldn't have offered Coleman another contract under any circumstances, he's broken, however it boggles the mind the number of times he's either just returned to playing for us or has not yet returned to playing for us but is magically available for his national team only to return injured again. At which point we sort out his rehab. I sincerely hope nobody with any sense suggests offering him a new contract "so he can walk us out at BMD". It's bad enough that he's physically finished but the fact that the club that has supported him through a series of serious injuries and made him a millionaire is considered a second priority is not good enough and certainly doesn't support his Mr Everton persona. He's got to cease being an Everton player at the end of the season. If he wants to stay as a coach, no problem (although that should be with one of the age groups, not the first team), but if he wants to prolong his Éire international career then he needs to find somewhere else to do his part time day job.
