2024/25 Seamus Coleman

Seamus Coleman is Irish and sleeps in Celtic pyjamas, the 2 main reasons why there is so much adulation for him on these pages. I don’t need to imagine what those jingoistic posters would think of him if he was English.

I think he’s a lovely bloke that doesn’t want to admit his body is broken and hasn’t been at the required level for a few years, no shame in that as it comes to all elite level athletes. Some players have the grace to bow out, others (Seamus included) tarnish their reputation by trying to cling on when they are physically finished.

The shouts of Club versus Country are tedious IMHO. Putting Coleman to one side, any player, whatever his nationality, agrees his future plan with his Club and respective Country and they go with it. Injuries can happen playing for Club or Country, but being involved with both can be beneficial too (PR, marketing, fitness, training, techniques and camaraderie in another setting).

Plus, contact to attract other players (e.g. Coleman’s role in attracting players such as O’Brien). Personally, I’d love him to tap-up Evan Ferguson and some of the younger generation too.

Overall, given his service and original £60k outlay etc, in the case of Séamus, talk of wasting money on him is the least of our worries. Every manager and player he has worked with, and for, extols his virtues yet some haters on here are just looking for another excuse to moan or try and turn fans against him. There’s enough negative rubbish around our Club. Fire burns in Séamus for Everton and Ireland. Here’s hoping he’s back playing for both soon.

This applies if he's avaliable for most of the games and being out with an injury is a rare occurrence. That can happen whether it's for club or playing for your country. The issue is it's abnormal for Coleman to string more than 5 games together nowadays (I say nowadays, the last 3 years more like) and thus he should be limiting the amount of games he plays, that means international retirement.

If Ireland had a massive game and he was the only right back available then fair enough for him to go, it's these glorified friendlies that don't matter one jot that he is pushing to play when he hasn't even played one complete game for us this season is just a nonsense.

He was fine for the majority of the Bournemouth game- he is better than Young. But just like in the Bournemouth game, I don’t think his body can handle this kind of intensity anymore. He can start in a pinch and come off the bench, but he shouldn’t be near a weekly starting spot anymore (same for Young). It’s like the universe is screaming at Dyche right now. Young red card and Coleman crock pot supper
