Seamus Coleman

I don't think Coleman would have done any better for Spurs goal - possibly worse.
Holgate has been first rate. Keep him in.

Anyone douting our Seamus needs their head checked out.

Short term memory much?

The lad is a class act.

I agree that Seamus is a class act, but form should trump everything else

Holgate has played well and should keep his place. Coleman should only get in once Holgate's form dips

I'm sick of a player doing well and then getting dropped as soon as the regular first teamer comes back

If Coleman really is that much better than Holgate, then Holgate's form will eventually drop and Seamus will be back in again

Would be surprised if Seamus plays the full game against Sunderland. That was tough game on Monday on a terrible pitch (match was almost called off it was so boggy). Players were blowing hard after an hour and were dead on their feet at 90mins.

Considering how well Holgate's been doing, he shouldn't walk straight back in to the side IMO

That being said, I think he'll duly impress in training and will be back in eventually. Big season for Seamus this. Hopefully Koeman gets him back to his best

Spot on. Baines likewise.

What's the consensus on the likes of Galloway and Garbutt? I think both did great but don't seem to have struck a chord.

Im sick of people wanting sub-standard players to retain a place cos they come in and do a job.

Holgate is a wonderful player, but hes not a natural RB, as soon as our natural RB is fit and ready he comes back in, the same as when Galloway did well while Baines was out.

If Holgate was an actual RB I could see the benefit of retaining him, but hes not, Coleman is, so he walks back in as soon as hes fit.

The same as Geri getting binned the very second Lukaku was fit, didnt notice anybody crying over that.

Galloway has been sent to a side where he'll get plenty of first-team Prem football and improve defensively. It's a good move for all parties.

Just don't think Garbutt has been able to step up yet - and injuries haven't helped. Needs a full season in the Champ - hopefully injury free

Holgate's been very good. Better than Coleman has been in the last two years, in my opinion. If we're only considering form in picking the side for Sland, Coleman takes a place on the bench, fully fit fit or not.

The issue of burnout that was brought up is a fair point, but Holgate's only been in for a few games. That's one for Koeman to decide. I'll trust him either way.

He's played 4 games. He hasn't been better in them than Coleman for the last few years mate.

He's a 19-year-old CB. He's doing brilliantly, but there'll be plenty of games to go around. Seamus can only get his sharpness back by playing.

I'm not sure where this "Holgate isn't an RB" stuff is coming from

He played in that position before coming to Everton

Form should trump everything

Del was hardly setting the world alight as a Striker was he?

If he'd been slotting for fun I would have happily kept him in, but he wasn't, thus it was fair to move him out wide again and Rom back to Striker. That's how it should work

Played as a CB versus Spurs, Yeovil and WBA.

Hes a natural CB, hes not a full back, full back is a specialised position, its ok being good defensively and im sure in time he could master the full back role, but he hasnt yet.

Agree to disagree. I think Holgate's just strung a bunch of very decent performances together and Coleman certainly hasn't done that recently, to my memory. If Coleman had been pulling up trees prior to getting injured, I'd be happy for him to go straight back in, but he's been average at best for a good while now. I think it speaks volumes that a 19 year old centre back has come in and already got to the point where we can seriously discuss whether Coleman should come straight back in.

Cos Coleman is being judged on last year under a failing manager in a failing team.

Surely he should be given a crack at proving hes the Seamus we all fell in love with?

The thing is, Ronny doesnt suffer fools, so if hes not performing in training or doesnt look ready he wont play, but he should be at least be given a chance.

People do enjoy ripping into Seamus, hes an amazing player and will show it this season under a proper manager in a team with actual tactics.
