Yes it's a squad game and Holgate did his job as a member of the squad...he filled in when needed and did a job.

Magnificent is stretching it though. Was late marking Lamela on Spurs goal and let Arnautovic get behind him when Walters 100% should have scored for Stoke. He's been good though overall. Someone we can count on it seems.
So that's why the pundits and our manager raved about him then??

Spurs was his debut mate... He would have been a bag of nerves before the match.... His performances again WBA and Stoke IMO... Meant he should have stayed in the team

I will 100% stand by the stance that players only lose their place due to injury when their replacement clearly proves to be the better player. People always say 'what message does that send to young players'...when the message is far more negative to an established starter if he loses his place due to an injury.

If fit the established starter must be allowed to lose his place on form...not injury. They were the starter for a reason.

*edit...he's not even a RB ffs

Rarely got forwards had an average good game does not seem to have the speed hence my point resting him may have been a better option!

.....I'm thinking both full backs are acting under orders to be very selective in going forward. I've been really critical in recent seasons that their lack of discipline has resulted in us conceding too many goals. Far too often they've been what I call 'grazing' upfield leaving the CBs exposed to a single ball.

I might be wrong but I suspect they will sit in a lot more in this regime.

spot on eggs. No doubt in my mind the defence as a collective have been told their job is to defend and keep clean sheets. There are players up top whose job it is to create and all Koeman is doing is building a solid foundation which is what was needed

this is it. we scored 3 goals with our multiple attacking talents creating them, we didn't require our full backs bombing on as well. in games we're struggling to create chances in/need to win, then you'll see them bombing on more. We have proper pacey wingers now doing the attacking as opposed to the more slower and creative types like pienaar.

Under Koeman the fullbacks are more defensively minded, there is no more reckless bombing forward.
I don't think it is an issue of players playing better or worse in most cases it is players playing differently.
