But equally so Coleman only lost his place through injury in the first place?

So he was unlucky and lost his place.... if I was given a chance as a youngster and played a mom performance and got dropped. I would be thinking " what do I have to do to get in the team" likewise Coleman will know that he has to put in a number of bad performances before being dropped.. no exactly breeding competition for places is it

He hasn't put in any bad performances since he came in though, which is the point you continue to ignore.

Playing devils advocate... conversely there is a danger of breeding an unwanted level of pressure and tension when a single mistake or bad game could put you back in the reserves.
Not a good atmosphere for breeding team play or for developing a young player. It is better imo to know that when you break into the first team you will have a certain level of loyalty to allow you to develop and make the odd mistake. Otherwise you end up with sterile, safety first, almost panicking football that results in at best narrow 1-0 wins but mostly defeats and draws and a lack of unpredictability to entice the fans or confuse the opposition..

'With Keane having now retired from international football and O'Shea no longer a regular starter, the Everton full-back has become a figurehead, and he feels his form has improved, particularly for his club following the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman.

However, he has insisted positive comments he made last week about the Dutchman were in no way intended as a criticism of his predecessor, Roberto Martinez.

Coleman said: "I saw something during the week that I took a swipe at Roberto Martinez, and that definitely wasn't the case. I have never said a bad thing about a manager that I have played for in the past.

"Roberto Martinez was good to me and taught me a lot going forward. When you are asked to compare managers, you always look like you're hammering another manager, which is never the case.

"Every manager is different and I just wanted to clear that up in terms of Roberto Martinez. I never took a swipe at him and I would never take a swipe at a manager.

"I just want to improve and impress every manager I play for, and they're all different."'

He's the ultimate pro. Like Baines, but more vocal on the field and a better leader. Captain him up soon Ronald please.
