2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

We didn’t have 30% possession at home to Southampton’s reserves in the cup. We will be lucky to have 20% at anfield. They also had 5 shots and 3 on target

But they didn't go there and get on the front foot though, did they? Do you really think Nuno's Forest set up much differently to Dyche? They went there, kept it tight, had a little spell, and walked away with a 1-0 win.

Let’s wait and see,
But so far in big away games dyche hasnt done that no,
Big difference setting up to actually counter and get players forward.

How many points has Dyche got from away games against the Super League 6 since he’s been here?

Forest don’t spend the entire game on the edge of their own box, no. They carry a genuine threat on the counter attack, they don’t play for set pieces.

He hasn't won any. No problem with that personally. As I've already outlined, I don't think they're the results he should, or will, be judged upon.

In an ideal world, Everton would be going to these places and going toe to toe with them. Nothing would make me happier. This debate is centred around whether we should be so defensive when we go to these grounds. I've personally got no issue with us doing that with this manager and these players. However, I was arguing against a point I find to be a bit disingenuous. A poster saying "he doesn't try to win" when basically what he really means is, he's very defensive in these games.

Not only has he not won any, but I believe he’s only picked up 1 point from them all, which was away at Chelsea when Simms scored. I think his record in those games is worse than many if not all of our previous managers. I think it’s quite clear he sets up and sends the players out with the intention to sit as many players back behind the ball and hope to ride our luck to a 0-0 draw if I’m honest. It’s prehistoric football from a bygone era for me.

Apart from that time we went to Chelsea and pressed and lost 6-0 mate. I've seen us press other times too.

If you want to call aimlessly running around like headless chickens and irresponsibly vacating their position while not covering for each other “pressing”, then yeah I guess. To be honest if that’s what he thinks pressing is, then I’m even more concerned.

It's old news that he got it wrong that night. He lost the players that night because he tried to change it up. I thought that was common knowledge.

I've definitely seen us press teams away from home though. Granted, it's never a 90 minute thing, and there's also normally a period of being cautious, more so against the big boys.

To be fair, how many points in the last 20 years have we got against them away? This is an issue way before Dyches time.

if we start chermiti when available maybe we can press more?

dunno

I think calling any game where you take the lead and don't win 'blowing it' is a bit daft to be honest. We're a bottom half side, it would be quite astonishing if we won every game we scored first in. In a lot of instances it's clearly nothing to do with subs either, which was the point being discussed. If you want to put Luton scoring in the 31st minute, - 7 minutes after we took the lead - down to Dyche not making a sub fast enough then knock yourself out, but I'm not sure it's particularly helpful.

The other thing to say, was prior to think season we were very good when taking the lead. We only lost 3 games (city/West Ham/Arsenal) when taking the league. At one point were were average like 2.5 points per game when we scored first.

Bournemouth was a total debacle, and a team shouldn't fall away like that. But our issue is we are very bad when we go behind, and don't go ahead often enough.

I think Dyche's philosophy is, if its working, don't change it. And I do have sympathy with that view, I do wonder how many managers add much value with changes.
