2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Fulham are a way better outfit than us.

Can you imagine us going to Man City and create chance after chance and have them holding on in a 3-2 game?
We finished ahead of them last season. They are currently only 3 points ahead of us this season. They really aren’t “far superior” of “way better”.

Holding them to a 3:2? They lost. Even Southampton “held” them to only 1 nil. But no, I couldn’t see us playing city and having a massive 4 shots on target like Fulham because Dyche ball is awful.

Thankfully it’s not as bad now. Even if Dyche went tomorrow I think we’ve now got a better squad than we had in Jan 23, the teams that have come up are poor, and if the takeover goes through we should have some money for transfers potentially. Dyche has taken us from a team that was 19th to one where most people are expecting a lower mid table finish, with some of his critics even saying the squad is perhaps the 9th best in the league. Clearly expectations have been increased and Dyche has progressed us despite the daily bleating that he hasn’t.

The clamouring to remove Dyche in previous seasons though was bordering on spinning the wheel of the clubs whole future and some people were willing to do that, to take the downside of us being relegated, championship, leasing of new stadium administration, for the potential upside of some higher possession stats and an 11th place finish and some more ‘entertainment’.

It's just a position some people have taken up now: no matter what the evidence, or where we are vis-a-vis to where we were before he came, they wont budge. Painted themselves into a corner and wont budge.

I think we play our best football away from home precisely because half of Goodison are fans with attitudes like this.

If our takeover is compromised and goes sideways I'd have no hesitation in putting a new contract in front of Dyche. He'd again hold the fort until a takeover finally did come along.

My point was Fulham are not having much better than us results wise this season. They are a bang average Premier League team. Literally. We actually finished above them last year (points deduction notwithstanding) yet to listen to some on here it’s a laudable achievement to somehow stare the might of Fulham down and grab a point. Dyche’s comments about them always giving us problems at Goodison or whatever is partly due to him being in charge for the last 3 home fixtures against them. The excuses made for this fella are incredible, to be honest. It was Fulham. At home. And it was absolutely dire.

We are also a bang average PL team though. That’s being kind at best. We’re probably worse than bang average.

Either way though look at the stats for the game, apart from possession stats the key ones are all pretty even. The only stat that matters was also even.

It’s this question of consistency for a side that will most probably finish in the bottom half. We can play like we did for 87 mins v Bournemouth where we absolutely did everything that posters on here ‘expect’ or are ‘entitled’ to see to outplay some apparently bang average side at home. We don’t have the consistency to do this every week though! If we did we’d be in the top 6!

People are looking at isolated games and saying we should be winning x. Fulham are probably looking at that game saying we should be beating Everton away. Neither team can execute their best level every week though which is why we’re probably different shades of average.

This is it really, we set up To try and snatch a win on the break again but home to Fulham

I stand firm in my belief , and it’s been like this for years , that Everton are some kind of warped social experiment so see just how much a football fan base will put up with .

Every time we think we’ve reached peak Everton , like appointing a beloved RS who ridiculed us manager or spurious headlock allegations there is still more to come .

As you say I feel like we’re all in too deep so we’ve no real option but to buckle up and do our best to ‘enjoy’ what’s to come .
There's an interesting thread there I think.

@chicoazul is a big fan of exploring the fan-club dynamic, but is the behaviour of some of fans due to the abused turning abuser?

Dyche being just the latest twisted addition to this malignant psychodrama.

People complaining that we rescued a point at home to what is a far superior team are amusing to me. Fulham's realistic goal for the season is to crack the top 7/8; ours is to stay in the PL. They've always bossed us about at Goodison in the last few years. Not exactly a surprise therefore that we have to hang on and make it a close game for as long as we can and try and grab something from the game.

The same people would have the new flavour of the month in here...and if he failed they'd slide away back into the shadows or start rioting that the board had destabilised us.

I find it absolutely 'kin comical, tbh: the clamour to destabilise us and sack a man we all know can keep us safe just on the off chance we get a new manager who hands us 20 minute spells in games where the football is easier on the eye.

There's no getting through to these people; they're unreachable.
You see this is the difference - that’s your ambition, not a lot of supporters. Expectation is to do better than that - e.g. similar or slightly better than last year

I totally get setting up like against city or arsenal but to do it against Fulham seems so negative and if you give a goal away you’re then relying on a snatched 94th min equaliser to salvage something .

Feels like you’re just creating problems for yourself , he doesn’t need to be adventurous free flowing but they aren’t binary choices . Just maybe not completely surrendering the ball .

Because with a knife at our throats we had aa manager capable of pulling out a season like that...the same manager who's not good enough for us now.

Anyone who thinks Dyche has done a decent job needs to scratch their head, he has done the job any average grassroots manager can do, he is nothing more than an Old PE teacher, he has zero game plan, the subs he makes are always like for like (anyone can do that, you don't have to be that qualified to work that out)
He says the same things week after week.
He has been here 20 months and we are exactly the same position ie awful but with different players
ZERO PROGRESS AT ALL
so NO he hasn't done a decent job

Dyche has played an absolute blinder, he's convinced some of our fans that he's some sort of miracle worker.
I think the best thing about Dyche mate is that he's a manager with resolve; he's made the decision that he wont chance playing a different way that could hold us open to danger in games and thereby threaten the PL status of the club. He'll stick at getting players to work hard behind the ball and never give up.

Until the finances are on their feet again I'll take that 100%.
