2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

As mentioned by @Neiler we're currently 2 points better off than last season though

🤷🏻‍♂️
Ok, but our form massively improved later in the season, are you suggesting that because it happened once, it will happen every time? That's not how statistics work, in fact it's that type of event that stats are supposed to correct for. So you either want a stats based approach, and you can then criticise the sample size if it is not large enough, or you don't, in which case a game by game "eye test" is reasonable. It's not surprising to me that @Neiler is your go to here, as he hides behind stats whilst not really applying them appropriately too due to his naked pro-Dyche agenda.

Jesus Christ, haven’t our eyes suffered enough already ffs?!

Interesting Morinho saying he needs to go to a bottom of the table club in England!!

Smoke and fire and that!!

Though id be surprised if the new owners were to go there...

imagine the melt down on here!

We’ve got him until the end of the season when his contract ends. TFG aren’t going to waste money better spent elsewhere on giving him a severance package unless it truly becomes unavoidable so I guess the best thing is just let it go. But Jeez it’s a dire, dire watch

I think weve seen Dyche use both front foot (Joe Royle style) and ultra defensive (Allardyce) tactics and a few derivatives of both.

To be honest, I dont care which style we use -- though I loved watching us under Royle. I care about us winning.

For a basic example look at Mourinho at Madrid and Pep at Barca. What I think is that IF we used Mourinho / Dyche / Simeone type anti-football tactics then we have a GREATER chance of getting towards the top of the table...

...playing teams like City, Villa, RS, Arsenal and even Brighton at their own game probably would cost a fortune in new signings and of course a far different manager.

I doubt £200mil* in 4 top starting players (as an example) would get us into that top 4 or top 6 bracket.

However, if we had those players under an anti-football manager like Mourinho et al then I reckon we may be in with a chance.

*taking note that is unrealistic as we need 50% squad rebuild in the summer.

TLDR: Anti-football with some top additions may get us further up the table than playing teams at their own game.

The strange thing is despite all the school of science stuff, Goodison generally reacts better to the anti-football qualities. The work ethic, the getting stuck in with a tackle that takes man and ball etc. Don't get me wrong there has to be quality when we get our foot on the ball and it can't just be lump up top and hope it sticks like now. However if we can see a pattern, that we will defend more often than not, but then attack with pace and power to get a decent shot away or get to the byline and put in a cross for the forwards to attack, then I think most would be happy.

I think Mourinho's us against the world chip on his shoulder, practically embodies Everton. Yes we won't play sparkling football, yet he won't let it get as dour as it is. It will probably end badly as it does everywhere he goes, if you prepare for that though and haven't caved in to all his demands then we might find we have a decent platform to get someone a bit more modern in. Same thing would happen again if you put 2024 Silva into the hot seat now. He and the players wouldn't be able to cope with the pressure of playing progressive football and you go back to square one. Mourinho/Simeone are good bridge managers to get us from where we are now to where we think we would like to be.

The amount of lads I’m speaking to who are saying the exact same thing.

They’ve just stopped watching us, as it’s ruining their weekends and wasting a lot of money in the process.

It’s like Allardyce re visited all over again.

I left at half time yesterday, watched the 2nd half in the ale house. It's painful to sit through and criminal that we're paying good money to watch this absolute dross.
