2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

All 4 have improved recently, Doucoure was pretty poor on Saturday though. It’s tough for any striker to make an impact when they’re isolated up front with little support but that doesn't excuse his terrible finishing.

I said it at the weekend mate - one of the aspects that pleases me this season is the impact of the extended squad on results, we saw it again at the weekend, we've more live squad options this year and players seem motivated when the chance comes - which hints at the squad in a good collective and stable place overall. We're going to need that in 5 weeks. Going on id be curious what impact contract situations leads to if any.

I don't get the argument that Dom is isolated myself, we've been guilty of that in phases especially last season, this season i don't see it and i think his finishing has been exposed.

I don't think you can be isolated and get and miss the chances hes been butchering personally.

It’s surprising how quick people are to believe that Premier League players can’t make simple passes to feet. I'm not expecting tiki-taka football, just a bit of pattern of play would be nice. I'm a firm believer that this isn't the only way this team can play.
Na mate they can't. We have been told on here by the Dychettes . And don't expect him to be able to coach them to do it either. They aren't up to that standard. Or run forward . Not able to do that either .

My biggest complaint with our attacking play this year is that we haven't committed to any type of style of play

One minute we are trying slow pedestrian build up in our own half but the next minute we are hoofing it long with no one around the forward.

I have no issue playing direct. In fact I think it's probably the least bad option. But if we're going to go long then commit to it fully. Get bodies around the striker and play with aggression.

You can't play long ball hoof ball to a lone striker with no midfield runs or wide players running in behind.

I don't understand what we are trying to do.

Problem is though teams adjust, so you need a degree of variance even in one game, people will complain about going direct. But it was Kanakiaze stuff at times vs Fulham trying to play through their press at times, particularly from the back. Its not always like that in every game.

One of my critiques of the squad, is i dont think they collectively have strong skills in, in game decision making and management. Sometimes you have to read the game and say we are getting mullard by the press, we need to go direct - sure the message also has to come from the manager as well, but there is also an in game responsibility to. To many times this season, we've been slow to read the game first half and been much better in the second, when the players had it broken down for them. Or the Bournemouth cluster and Leicester equalizer.

He is though? He'll win a flick on and no one will be around to win the second ball?

I think we play a certain way for Dom mate. Its something i think we should move on from - we shouldn't be giving him the ball to flick on to one - but if we dont what good is he. Lets be honest we have had to make the best of what we have. Last season our best chances came from pounding balls into the box - this also playing to his strengths. So we have lads now now who can slip the balls through, ball at feet, hes bothered about 7 of those chances in the box this season. Isolation is not getting chances.

We need to move on from him in my opinion.

….i actually think DCL is more isolated because McNeil isn’t a no10 who is naturally or has the physicality to get alongside or beyond him. On the plus side, he has much more quality in possession to ‘put the striker in on goal’.

I actually think McNeil at no10 has been a major problem for Dyche in finding the right balance elsewhere. If he has Doucoure at no10, he can build an axis behind him and out wide. McNeil switching might have been a success but it’s also given Dyche a headache.

You can't really play it full stop these days though, most PL defenders are as big (if not bigger) than any striker and most have a fair bit of pace (unless its Keane and Tarkowski) The only way is too play as a forward 3 but as a 2-1 and they need to play almost in a triangular shape so that the instant that ball goes up there and the striker wins it there is automatically an out point for them. That takes serious work on the training ground with and without the ball and as we know our training ground activities seem to be a bit of a mystery at times.
