2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Once wasn't it?

And maybe you've changed your mind on the impact losing Chris Wood on a release clause late Jan had on them - and fortunately us that season. Good player in that system, him.

No it was twice, they went down in 2022 because he’d led them to 4 wins in 33 games. And as for Wood, well 3 goals in 17 games that season doesn’t really suggest Dyche was getting the best out of him does it. He got very good money for Wood and spent it on Weghorst as a replacement so it is what it is I suppose.

All that matters is the here and now this season, not what he did last season, and that lineup v Brighton is unforgivable.

Equally let me now tell you about his win % at Burnley and proclivity for certain formations.

Keep going lads

If you’re so unenthused by any and all discussion around Sean Dyche because of how meaningless it is, then why do you continue to live in the Sean Dyche thread?

We've had this debate before, and my answer to you in April remains;

The reality is - he took over Burnley from Eddie Howe when they were 14th in October in the Championship. He got promoted/finished 2nd that same season he joined - went straight back down as favourites to finish bottom No shock, surprise, or disgrace there.

He then pissed the championship as winners/got them straight back up, and had a below par and under resourced team - favourites/tipped for relegation every season - survive 5 years. He was then sacked with 8 games to go the season they did go down. They wouldn't have gone down either if they didn't lose their striker Chris Wood that January.

Sean Dyche has improved us/our results having not spent anything.

You might want Bielsa, Potter or whoever hipster choice - but guess what mate? They don't want Everton.

So, Burnley got relegated under Dyche once - as favourites. And the context is there.

Oxford United are currently 14th, if Dyche took over there tomorrow and got them promoted they'd probably go down next season too.

He has a very good record of keeping relegatio fodder who aren't spending, in the Prem. He's doing that here too, thankfully.

In my view, and one I've long shared even before he was our manager - Dyche would have kept Burnley if they hadn't sold Wood that January, a player who had hit double figures in every season of the 4 full seasons for him. He was by some distance, their most important player - their record signing and 53 goals in 165 games. They went down by 3 points/they couldn't score goals.

If’s buts and maybes. Like has been pointed out to you, he hardly scored for Burnley that season and Burnley were already in big trouble when he was sold and dyche had 20mil to replace him. He won 3 in 30 ? Before he was sacked averaging 0.8 points per game, Johnson who took over for the last 8 games. Got something like 1.4 points per game on the last 8. Dyche took them down, absolutely mental you think otherwise

Indeed mate, but the records show Burnley were relegated once under him.

Even if he stayed and they went down again - there's a reason why he's loved there and there's a pub named after him. Because he overachieved.

Kompany spent more in one summer than Dyche did in his whole time there - and he sent them down.

This will be his last season here, and Everton history will rightly be kind to him.

So had he took us down in 2023, it would be solely on him and noting to do with Lampard. He won’t be remembered at all in years from now. And that’s Burnley,
We’re Everton he will never manage a club as big as us again.

I need to use admin panel an the app doesn't support it very well with no multi browsing.

The iOS/Google Play Grandoldteam app is very dated/not supported and never recommended for forum use. The PWA app (installed via browser) is great though.

That was meant to be a little joke to.make you blush but it's ended up blowing up in my face!

I'll get on that PWA though
