2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

Believe the club didn't have the money to do a big Preseason tour at the time, cash flow was an issue, Ireland was the comprise.
They should not have travelled - they could have stayed at Goodison and played a host of high level teams all at the grand old lady for her last hurrah - even could have done a small tournament?

Im sure we would have got some high level, big foreign teams wanting to come over as well as pl sides. Yet another missed opportunity.

I shouldn’t have been surprised that we didn’t plan anything like that though, the zombie club was in full flow, lurching from one crisis to the next.

Maybe. But even then we played against garbage teams and still gave them the advantage and were generally horrible. I wouldn't want to watch a championship/Prem team absolutely snot us everywhere, friendly or not, and it was bound to happen the way we went about with it.

I personally never want to see us play another prem team in a friendly ever again. Maybe I'm just old school, but it felt bonkers to me.

No it isn't. A point was made saying that Dyche had a point about the PL fitness thing and he definitely does not. There is no such thing as PL Fit. You are either match fit or you are not. He has been match fit plenty of times before Benitez nearly killed him, the Ancelotti era being the best because he was fit and also scoring lots of goals.
It's almost like they want us to celebrate Dyches achievement of getting DCL Fit🤷‍♂️

Most of the other PL teams are on tours and doing the commercial thing aboard etc - TBF we played Roma.

But yeah safe to say we constrained by limits at the club, heading down the road to play Dog and Duck Utd as opposed to warm weather somewhere.

There are 19 other PL teams in this country that are only a coach ride away.

When you look at it they only ever play each other as part of a commercial tournament abroad really and its usually earlier in preseason, its more a money spinner then anything.

Id be surprised if PL clubs were playing each other in preseason a couple of weeks before the season started?

Sure the last preseason at Goodison could have been planned and managed a little better, even without pl teams.

Roma plus a few more decent high level sides would have been sound- I know I’d have gone to more games than just Roma.

Maybe, im not here to defend the club administration and decision making, my thoughts on it are well documented, we're a manure show.

Yeah it is a bit weird, but there's also better teams that will allegedly prepare us better for the PL opposition than Salford and the annual Preston game.
But also as I said, we were somewhere between "second best" and "atrocious" in most of those games regardless of opposition, so not sure how much benefit it would be if we were to lose 3:0 against those instead of, say, Coventry or Salford.

Plenty of them played other PL team during pre season mate. You have to build up your fitness in a gradual managed and controlled way. We just just chose crap teams to try and make us look better and even that back fired because we were still crap and ended up completely unfit and unprepared for the start of PL season.
