2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

And that's what we fundamentally disagree on. I don't think there are many managers that could get this Everton side winning with possession football.

And for your point about him not having Burnley use possession, Kompany tried that with them and they were relegated.
I’m not sure anyone want us to be tiki-takaing the ball all over the place and expecting Brazil70 with doucure, young, gana, tarks and mykolenko mate.

It won’t work, no one’s asking for possession for the sake of it, but I’d love to see an element of control to our play when we do have the ball instead of us looking like it’s a nuclear bomb and just lashing it as far away as possible.

We could and should try a different approach with the players/tools we have instead of flogging the hoofball, percentage football, kitap1 don’t conceded and happy with a draw shambles to death.

A different tactical shape, maybe 3-5-2, perhaps?
Players in different roles/positions, perhaps?
Some of the dyche forced fringe players getting more than zero to 5 minutes, when the usual suspects left on the pitch are doing naff all, perhaps?
Reacting to what’s happening on the pitch with subs and game management, perhaps?

No chance of “perhaps, perhaps perhaps” with this manager sadly, just more of the same ineffectual, mind numbing hoof regardless of the players we have.

We scored probably my favourite Everton goal of recent times under Dyche with Beto olex29, with mostly these players - what’s happened to that Everton team or were the players just having fun and ignoring him because we had scored a couple of goals?

But picking random games to compare doesn't really work as a proper comparison does it? We had some games where we were unlucky not to score/score more early last season I agree but it's not true that we were turning up every week battering teams. 'Deserving' to win is a difficult one to quantify I think, like on saturday you couldn't say a draw was a travesty by any means, but if we'd won 1-0 you couldn't say it was undeserved either. We had 27 shots, there's valid criticism that we aren't creative enough, that we need to work out ways to break teams down and get key players into better positions etc, but the constant 'we weren't even trying to win' type stuff is just daft - you don't have 27 shots if you're not trying to win, that's fairly obvious.
I’m basing it on this season, it’s been more bad than good. Did you watch the Brentford game? You can bring up 27 shots all you want. The goalkeeper had 1 good save to make and that came from Dcl in the first half, the best chance of the game came from them. TBH I’m not arsed about the Brentford game, far better teams have come unstuck vs a low block.

I know that, that's literally what i'm saying to you? We are not good at kicking the football, I am aware of this fact.

You’re criticising me ‘picking random games’ all I did was mention Bournemouth being our best performance well at least for 75 minutes it was. Picking a game from last season isn’t comparable, a game from this season 100% can be mentioned especially when I was praising it overall.

Wonder why that is? Hmmmmmmmmm

I mean yeah some of those players were already here and some have played in proper passing teams down the years and they did manage to keep the ball better (and do nothing substantial with it) even under the last guy... Hmm, a real conundrum here.

Sorry. Are you suggesting that managers and coaches are supposed to… coach footballers?! Outrageous.

Mate i'm not criticising you at all, i'm just saying we could look at random games from last year where we weren't better than Saturday aswell, that's all. Like Luton at home for example was very similar to the last 2 home games I would say. My point was just that I don't think it's necessarily that we have got/are getting worse as such, it's just that the baseline of performances isn't that high in general. Sometimes we do a little bit better, sometimes we do a little bit worse, but the basic principle is the same. If we have loads of chances against Wolves it won't mean we've solved all our attacking issues, it will just mean we've done well in a game, and the same applies in reverse at the moment.
