2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

We've endured some truly dreadful football over the past decade, but somehow Dyche has managed to serve up something even worse.

There’s no way the players enjoy playing like this—it’s insulting to them. I’m not even asking for possession-based football, just a counter-attacking approach with some purpose. We saw glimpses of it at the start of Dyche's tenure, so what’s changed?
We can't play that way against teams that sit back at Goodison though. We've been losing to 'smaller' teams at goodison for years now who follow the same formula.

We saw it a few times, the rest was hoof and hope, but at least it felt like it was a plan. It didn't work for prolonged periods as teams caught on incredibly quickly as it is hilariously 1 dimensional - any manager who'd seen us play in his first 5 games knew we'd just sit back and try to counter, hence they just gave us the ball and we had no plan about that. Still don't btw.

It did work flawlessly against Brighton and Arsenal though (at the start I mean, it's worked several times since too, credit where it's due), but it's the only approach we have and nothing else and we're back to skyball as soon as a team gives us space, which they now do all the time and we still haven't changed.

It still makes me wonder how people think it's the players that actively want to play like this - we've seen enough of Onana everywhere else to see he's perfectly adept at playing both a short passing and a direct ball game and all he did here was aim at the sky. Funny how that changed overnight as soon as he wasn't in an Everton shirt.

All we have is hope, it’s all we’ve had for years but it also kills you.

They are keeping it up for BMD and goodisons last season, not really the hope.

I’m still going cos I’ve already paid for my tickets, the kids are nagging me to keep going (just about tbh) and it’s Goodisons last season. Seeing mates is a bonus, but I would still arrange to see them without Everton being there.

it’s a stupid sense of loyalty/duty - that has been eroded and abused for decades by the club, and the dyche style footy will exacerbate the decline, as it was with Benitez.
This x 10.

I'm sad to say I gave up my ST a few years back.

The football was terrible and the club showed no ambition. Great meeting mates for a bevy and all of us bemoaned the fact that we had to leave the boozer to go the game.

So, we decided to forget the match and carry on drinking.

Hate to say I really don't miss it too much.

I go to a handful of games a season, they are still crap and I congratulate myself for not squandering any more money.

Does that make me a bad fan? Probably but I can live with it.

I just don't see where the club is going and whilst BMD is gorgeous let's be honest it's not the silver bullet to all our problems.

So much admiration for the lids that go home and away , true dedication/ madness but at my time of life I'm happy supporting from the side.

We've seen glimpses of it recently too though. This is where I struggle with much of the criticism, loads of people seem to be making out like it's got worse, but they were saying the same things almost from the second he took over. Some people just didn't want him and have been critical of almost everything he did right from the off. Again, this isn't even meant as a defence of him, glimpses aren't enough and serving up the football we have in the last 2 home games is just not acceptable for me, but in the main I don't really think there's been much difference in performances from season to season, it's more just a case of sometimes it's enough to get you a result and sometimes it isn't. That's how it goes when you're a below average side.

That's the managers biggest downfall, he cannot setup a team to win while having more of the ball, it was the same at Burnley.
And that's what we fundamentally disagree on. I don't think there are many managers that could get this Everton side winning with possession football.

And for your point about him not having Burnley use possession, Kompany tried that with them and they were relegated.

So why does the miracle working, tactical genius keep setting us up the same way every week, no matter the opponent?
The players aren’t good enough to break down smaller teams with the ball? That’s entirely on them, not the manager or coaches who work with them daily and set the game plan, right? Sorry, I’m not buying it. These are international players—we can’t pretend they’re incapable of countering with intent instead've hoofing it. It's Dyches gameplan, he sets out his ideals in that 'masterclass' video he did, that's how he likes his teams to play

The argument of players being international players is one that bugs me a bit. You could have a squad full of Irish intl players and they still wouldn't have quality, because the Irish intl squad is poor.

Who's asking for that? We had a lot of possession vs 10 men but that's understandable, other than that it's pretty 50/50 at home usually vs 'smaller' teams

I don’t thinks he’s got long left in the job to be honest. I really can’t see Friedkin keeping him in charge. The deal should be done early to mid December and I think they’ll act quickly. We could be down to a matter of single digit Dyche days, not weeks or months.
